Fac air rifle opinions

I'm considering an fac air rifle for pest control, to replace my 22/17hmr, rabbit crow etc my question is simple what do people think is the calibre to go for 22 or 25, I already have a 177 sub 12 for indoor/ closer range work. R

I have both, an FX Wildcat in .25 and a FX Crown in 22. My opinion is that the 22 is possibly a fraction more accurate than the 25 but the latter, especially with slugs has more knockdown power.
To be honest, at the end of the day, they both do a very good job with little between the two.
Incidentally, the Crown is the most accurate air rifle I've ever owned.

Hello, For me any FAC Air Rifle would need a Bottle filling to get the best shot count , The 25 may need a bit more ft llb depending on your shooting distance , There is a chap on PW who is on U tube with FAC Air, look up Simon6ppc

How far do you want to shoot and how many shots will you need before a recharge? You will get more shots from the same rifle with 22 but can go to longer range with a 25.

I have an FX Crown MK2 .22 super accurate, I’m the weakest link . I have different power settings, low apprx 14ft/lb for squirrels on feeders, then two others at the sweet power spot for pellets and slugs .
Regularly dispatch caged foxes in urban environment with the Crown nice and quiet 👍.
The only negative is no sling studs on the Crown I bought a but pate off FleaBay and also tapped a stud in up front .

What sort of power are folks running and what numbers of shots can be expected, I'd put the largest carbon bottle possible on it, an FX seems popular but expensive, I have to say my present dreamline lite is a stunning piece of kit 👍

My Crown is running at 37ft-lbs 940fps. I've never counted the shots but one night I shot 70 rats on the local poultry farm with still plenty in reserve.

I prefer the .25 for the knockdown power and being slightly better in the wind.

Having said that I've put my .25 up for sale in the classifieds if your interested, job lot with bottle, pellets, scope etc

FX Dreamline Classic for me at 30ft/lbs. Seems plenty of power and can be turned down to around 12ft/lbs. Perfect power combo. I get at least 50 full power shots, but have never ran it right down. On 12ft/lbs it must be well over 100 shots.

I just bought an FAC impact mk4 in .22.
Factory setting - 18.5 grain JSB pellets at 920fps which are very accurate. Dealt with grey squirrels and pigeons out to 80m last week with authority. I can only imagine what it will do with slugs if I up the power …

I love the idea of FAC air and I think if I was shooting from a truck I’d opt for one but for walking around fields the hmr is what I’d have.

Hi Hammo and Ratcatcher,

Hammo- I don’t want to side track the thread but what pellets are you using in your FX Dreamline? I’m currently using H&N Barracuda 18s.
In reply to Ratcatcher I use a .22 FAC and really rate it, i rarely use the .22LR now. Thinking about a compressor as the only issue is recharging it and the 5 year limit recheck on the tank and getting it refilled is a hassle. Even with this the FAC air rifle is my preferred rabbit gun.
Thanks

I may have misunderstood your phrasing- but I really wouldn't consider FAC air as a viable alternative to a HMR.

Not knocking them etc- but if you want to wizz through fields of rabbits and perform serous pest control out to 150 yards- HMR wins all day long IMO.

Supremely accurate quiet discreet pellet placement out to 75 yards or so- FAC air for sure :)
