I have a Hawke .17 HMR scope ontop of my rifle, but if I am being fussy, the Field of view is quite narrow.

Looking to see what's out there, will spend up to £500 as want good, clear glass.
Preferably something with BDC reticule. I love the ret in the dedicated HMR scope, but it's like looking through a pipe.
I am after Zeiss, Leupold etc, will consider Sightron and some of the American brands - you get the picture. Ideally reticule range 5-20, 3-18 etc. 50mm objective if preferable but will consider 44mm, 25 or 30mm tubes.

I do have. Zeiss Victory Diavari 6-24x56 with Mil dot IR reticule in VGC that I am thinking of selling which is currently on my .243 but going to swap that our for a Swaro 8x56 IR, so could do a scope swap + cash if that's of interest too.
James.

I am seriously considering an Alpex 4k LRF to use ontop of my .243 for evening work and then swap to my .22-250 for night foxing.

Hawke sidewinder are all I use on my .22 and .17hmr! Good enough for what I need, I did try a alpex but it annoyed me needing to turn it on for quick shots!!! Stick with the hawke and take yer partner out for tea 😂 or buy something else with the saving

Not sure you need to go that good on a 17hmr.

Wulf lightening/hurricane scope be good imho. Hawke etc of course

I have a Hawke endurance WA SF 4-16 x 50 I’m not using any more. I actually have two of them, used for hunting and range work on 22lr, 17hmr, .204 and .243 with great success and their accurate dailing. Let me know if your keen we can talk price 👌

Have a little hawke 17 hmr scope on my own Tikka and love it for the reticle alone but it's not exactly a super clear bit of glass but more than capable of a little fun

I have a Meopta Optika 6 3-18x50 with BDC reticle here. Also a Nightforce 3.5-15x56 with a hollow mildot reticle if you want to stretch a little more.

This for a simple point and click

Keep an eye on the optics section here and on guntrader etc., you will find a wide variety of scopes coming up on here, I have a Leupold Mk4 4.5-14x50 on my 22, I also have a 3-12x50i Swarovski 221fb which again i got for around your budget. If you go for a good make you should have few problems. Patients will pay dividends every now and again you will get an excellent bit of glass at a good price. Good move upgrading your optics, if you an save up and push your budget up just bit more you will be right in the value range for what you are looking for. Good luck.

You do not actually say what actual main use this rifle set up will be used for . This is the most important bit ! The only info we have is various stuff you list . What is this set up being actually used for ?
If i ever bought another 17 HMR (unlikely tbf) , it would have a reason i chose one and then the choice of scope to put on it would be very clear

Thank you, I look on here almost everyday - been on this forum for 10+ years and traded a lot of items. I can go more, but at the end of the day it's a rimfire rifle? I would like something of good quality, nice and clear. I really like the reticule not he dedicated HMR scope from Hawke, but at 16x mag the FOV is only 2.1m and that's just a bit too "focused" for me.

The rifle is to non on a 17HMR rifle, hence the Dedicated Hawke Vantage 17HMR scope ontop. I like the reticule, but rhetorical FOV is tight. I use it for general day time pest control shooting rabbits, magpies, rooks, squirrels and mostly from my truck from 30-200 yards.

Had a Hawke Sidewinder 8x32x56 on my HMR but changed to a Minox X5i 3x15x50 for more or less the same reason.

The sidewinder mag was excessive, but great for pin point at100ms, but was almost as long as the rifle and threw off the balance. 😄 Wasn’t fun to carry.

The Minox has slightly better glass, so can be used later - both work well with a Pard NV007 add on.
