Mincer advice please

I’ve just wasted a kilo of decent Roe meat in a Porkert mincer - just clogged and turned the meat metal grey. So I’m going to get an electric. I’m not commercial, just want to be able to mix up a few kg every couple of months for burgers and sausages mainly. Any advice or recommendations on what to get? I can see some plasticky looking things for around £50, some looking more solid at £150 and then pro stuff coming in at £300 plus. I’m up for the £150 if need be, but don’t want to waste my money. Any tips from folk who do this regularly?

I had a cateright one and managed to blow it up! Ok for small batches (10-20kg) but clearly doing 75kg in one hit was too much for it.
I would go for on with a bloody good strong motor!!

I have a Kmix. The mincer attachment seems to be aluminium rather than stainless steel - which worried me a bit? I might see if anyone is selling a used quality mincer on SD

If you can stretch a bit more this has been great for me.
Its what I use for my dexters and my own pigs for nearly a decade.
It is a quality investment you will not regret imo.

You could be right. The body might be but the worm screw, hole plate and choppy thing? Are stainless. I don’t think they do them anymore but I got mine off eBay never used but a tatty box for 40quid. Which I thought was a good buy.

I bought one from Amazon several years ago and seems to do a good job for me. I trim the meat fairly tidy before, have it about inch sized cubes, maybe a little more. No bigger than golf/ping pong ball size. I also freeze it for an hour or 2 before processing.

The cheap electric mincers are not great. They last a while then, go blunt.
As has been said, semi freeze and it will work better.
Get a mincer that you can get spares for, ie, a new cutting blade, because it will go blunt eventually.
I bought off Amazon and got a Buffalo, I think. This seemed to be a generic make that people just put their name on. It was under £100 and you can get spares. So not too expensive and will cover your needs. It looks like this, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Caterlite-...&sprefix=buffalo+mincer+machine,aps,77&sr=8-6

They don't have the best steel parts, but I got my blade and just honed it on a diamond sharpening stone to re sharpen it and give the 4 teeth an edge. I just held it face down and slid it back and forth for a few minutes.
Could be said about something else too 😂👌

Try spade all day long

If you can find a second hand Kenwood chef with mincer attachment they are very good for what they are. Quite big strong motors compared to the plastic cheapies, and usually available fairly cheaply through Facebook marketplace
Funnily enough, when my cateright mincer packed up I switched to my kenwood chef with attached mincer and it worked way better than the dedicated unit!!

This is good advice I used a Kenwood mincer attachment for ages and it has a good amount of oomph
And it'll do sausages a hell of a lot slower than a normal mincer so you can keep up (I know a mincer is a poor sausage stuffer but then so am I)

… And after you’ve burned out a Kenwood mixer motor, go for a Tre Spade; high residual value because of their quality, and you’ll not wear it out.

You may try a Buffalo or similar generic type, and you may even be lucky and get a decent one, maybe…
