Any recommendations for a vintage fishing tackle specialist near Edinburgh? I’ve recently received a range of split cane and early glass fishing rods - fly, sea, coarse and spin - made by Hardy, Farlows, B&W and others as well as several custom/bespoke rods. These include Peter Stone ledgerstrike, Hardy Palakona and farlows coronation and jubilee specials. Some 17 rods in total! £

John Stephenson's Webuyfishingtackle web site might be a help. They have a November date at Angling Active near Stirling in November.
I'm afraid that old tackle seems to be pretty worthless unless it's got a famous name and a bit of provenance. I inherited a few lovely split cane and greenheart rods which I have kept and occasionally use as a "treat", but I was told once it would be a better idea to use them as pea canes for the money they would get!
You could try on ebay as well, but you might not get as much as you would like.

Try Holts Auctioneers - I buy old fishing tackle regularly…

I think that (having handled but not fished with) my late father's double handed built cane salmon rods in the 1970s that anyone who does fish for salmon will nowadays have long ago move on to carbon fibre. Cane single handed trout rods are a different thing altogether and still used by choice. Ditto fibre glass trout rods.

But I doubt few use built cane double handed salmon rods by choice. They to fishing as are sidelock non-ejector side by sides to game shooting. In their day by a top maker the acme and zenith of what was available. Nowadays? Even if the tip section is still straight and has no "deflection" to it no longer coveted. But alas most will have a tip section that isn't still straight.

Hello, There is nothing like Trout river fishing with a Cane Rod and Silk line, The days of Vintage tackle getting good money are gone but you can still get a fair price for named rods and reels, I have a reel made in Weymouth which would fetch a lot of money back a few years, Now about £50, You could get estimated values and see if worth advertising , I do have a nice fibre glass trout rod, good luck on your sales, Stumpy 1710 👍

It’s a beautiful rod - please tell!!
Hello, A friend of mine Jonathon ( Jack ) Web back many many years use to write on Fishing in the Herald Series of Weekly papers in the Vale, Peter Stone wrote for the Oxford Mail , I took many Photos for the Herald and Jack , Although Jack knew Peter he never liked it when he made crass comments on Jacks TV shows, But i have to say Peter was a good fisherman and book writer and Fishing Tackle expert, Is there a name of manufacture on the Rod ?? I remember the Ledger Strike, I expect some of the Photos are still in the Papers Archives, Jack did a TV programme called Casting Around, might be on U tube ?? Could not find !!!!
