Wanted: 300 WSM Rifle WANTED or 300 Magnum

Hi folks

I have a slot for a 300 Win Mag- but the 300 WSM has caught my attention. Easier to homeload, more efficient, a tad less recoil- there's a lot to like.

So before i commit to a win mag- does anyone have a WSM for sale ?

Must be a hunting setup- so please not a mammoth super heavy target rig.

You would be well advised to shoot one first.
I had a 7mm WSM and it had a worse kick than my 7mm Win Mag or indeed my .300WM.

I have shot a 7mm rem mag no probs but have to admit i havent tried a 30 cal...

Get a DPT moderator with the muzzle brake attachment if you want to tame it further

I have one. Not for sale. But incredible calibre, I would advise if planning to homeload you’d be better with the win mag. A Saami spec chamber for WSM isn’t great. As it’s a great cartridge but really comes into its own if you have a barrel turned and throated out so you can maximise case capacity and be able to seat the longer heavier bullets in the WSM and get full potential.

I have a custom WSM build around a XM magazine it’s a cross between short and long action. With a barrel throated to seat 180-200gr and get full case fill. It’s a fine setup and really does make a good job on deer especially at longer range. It’s also incredibly fun.

Don`t believe all of what the scribes will tell you. Btw there something like 2fp`s of recoil in difference `tween the two.

If ye are after efficiency go the .308 Norma magnum route.

I`m not a reloader but have read a lot on it re the 300`s and the WM has a few not insurmountable`s in comparison to the NM in reloading.

Perhaps this link will work on here. Its based on averages,note different bullet weights.
Put all three in for a comparison.

I know someone with a .308NM, used on the range only, expensive to feed, if you can trawl to get the necessary consumables.

I’ve found the 300 WSM nicer to shoot than the win mag.

And the Vortex guys 300 “super” experiment was interesting

Can’t imagine buying a 308 Norma mag in 2025 unless you enjoy life in extra difficult mode

It's not really any more efficient, nor necessarily more accurate.
The 300 Win Mag is used a lot by lost military and police units, not so the WSM.
Brass is more readily available for 300 Win Mag, and if you're in any gunshop anywhere in the world, you are highly likely to be able to purchase 300 Win Mag brass. There's not even much of an argument for worrying about the shoulder on the 300 Win Mag moving forward, if you reload with the correct dies.
