Dave at Valkyrie just finished building up my 338arc it is the first one in the country I’m lead to believe. I went with a 1:6.5 twist which is a bit fast than the SAAMI approval for this round 1:8.

Hopefully collecting her on Friday… can’t wait

P.s. Dorset police had no qualms about adding this to my ticket. Silent night time vermin shooting aka foxes without scaring every horse in a 1km radius.

Interesting, will be good to see how it stacks up against 300 BO in actual use.

Enjoy your new toy!

I am imagining it will be very similar and in all reality I could have just got a 300 blk.

However, this thing should stretch out the subsonic range/retained energy further than 300 blackout. Even if the trajectory will be shaped like a banana.

I also believe the theory is that with less case capacity it should be more consistent than higher case capacity rounds being made into subsonic.

Technically, I think it would be possible to load ammunition to be UK deer legal especially because the larger projectiles use up a lot of the case volume. For example a 185-grain round at 2050 feet per second would 1723 ft-lbs according to Google. But that is not what I got the gun for and there are better tools for that job!

For sure it’s a new toy and a bit of fun to be the first one in the uk but I do have a legitimate requirement to shoot silent.

That looks a very cool round and rifle build!

I’m in the process of having a rifle built and Dave was a strong contender as his work is highly recommended by several people I know who’s opinions I trust.

I have no doubt it will be a fantastic rifle and hope you enjoy it. 👍🏻

any off the shelf rifles available yet, apart from the AR platforms?
KB.
No, only AR15 so far.
Most are semi autos but Unitah precision now do a bolt action AR15 so that could possibly be imported???
Kerry at tactical Solutions is planning to get a load of barrels made ready to build up.

Bit of a messy background doing some decorating in the man cave.

Finally managed to pick up the 338ARC.
-I am really impressed by the quality of the aero precision parts (All billet aluminium). Very compact and very solid.
-The Valkyrie Rifles straight pull lever works well, the action is incredibly smooth.
-Very light triggertech trigger which would not be allowed for PRS competitions but is perfect for hunting.

-The silencer is a bit big as it is for a 338 Lapua. I think I can swap it for a 9 mm reflex moderator, but I might need to shorten the hand guard and re-spray it. Probably best to try it first and go from there.

How are you getting on with feeding from the magazine?
The few rounds we have made up have been totally fine with 270gr ELDX .
I will have 300 rounds made up but I suspect it will feed just fine.

2 things: The feeding issues are only with semi auto and with the SUB-X Hornady projectile mine is obviously a bolt gun and I can’t get the SUB-X but it is very flat nosed that must effect feeding. Have been using a regular ARC magazine however I have 400legend on order too.

Out of interest what is your intended purpose for the cartridge? Looks interesting but large subsonic rounds are very niche!

Long “for sub” range (200m) fox’s at night without disturbing horses/ dogs and their owners.

Target shooting on home range 200m+.

It’s just a more powerful 300 blk.

Wind drift and bullet drop will be huge but that adds to the fun. The projectile maintains decent energy.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Short cartridges have always been an issue in semi auto's and also upon ejection with a bolt action due to, in part plunger style ejectors and ejection angle. Unless a mechanical ejector is used of course. I look forward to seeing your results.
