Discovery 5 2025

Maybe Tata are getting a lot of the CAD design done cheaply back in India, I was at Tata Pune in 2013 and the CAD Jockeys don't even have bicycles so they can have no feel for the product.
I suspect they won’t be the only company doing so.
Offshore oil and gas engineering work the same to be honest. Mumbai & Chennai.

Ford and VW brand reliability is on par with landrover, and Nissans is worse, but the green oval always provokes a response.
I’ve yet to have a complex car not go wrong - Volvo, Mercedes, Ford, Nissan, GM, Range Rover etc

Large 4x4’s I’ve had

Range rovers , discoveries - all utterly unreliable , never never again !

Land cruisers, Nissan patrols - utterly trouble free, sadly Toyota don’t import the 200 series replacement so I’ve got the hump with them

For over 3 decades JLR has ben at the bottom of reliability surveys and people who ignore me and buy one soon learn they have not improved

Lovely cars , if they worked!

I keep this in my photo stream to warn would be JLR owners. It’s from a few years ago but the picture is the same now.

and as i say , thats where they have been for over three decades - surely time enough to improve if they wanted to ?

Isuzu trooper and Nissan Patrol - I’ve had both and both were hardly utterly reliable.

i had an isuzu trooper years ago and it was a beaut , 180k trouble free miles it was a commercial one i had as my service car and never let me down off road either

nissan patrol was just as good but underpowered in my opinion

Toyota Hilux chassis?
Professional Dinitrol coating from new, pennies alongside cost of new vehicle. The cost of getting it done every two or three years when compared with a JLR warranty, and all the time using a loan car/wife's car/ standing by the roadside awaiting recovery......

to be fair matey if you want a disco 5 then get one , nothing else will scratch the itch so to speak

all the JLR faults are plain to see but even i didn't see them when i wore the green oval glasses

their issues are something i think you have to really experience to believe?

good luck and i hope you get a good one

Hoping my freelander 2 stands up to the hype of the least unreliable of the JLRs of recent years.
So far I really like it!

I’ve had the ‘full shaft’ experience of Range Rover ownership so it’s not a case of green oval glasses. Nothing comes close to a v8 rangie, so I put up with one major (oil seal failure) and a few niggling faults over ten years. It was regularly used off road.

If I wanted to drop 120k on a car I’d buy another in a heartbeat. Meanwhile, a disco 5 is a runner in a very narrow field - thanks in no small part to green zealotry.
