looking to buy a cheap night vision scope for some rats im not wanting to spend big money on a scope for an air rifle was looking at the megaorei m5 thing thought it looks ok for the money just wondering if anyone had used one ? Saving up for a decent hik or a DNT for foxing just wanting something cheap to stick on the air rifle.
Also I’ve spent a lot of money (for me) on shooting equipment in the past few months and the wife isn’t to happy 😂 so need to calm down abit

If it’s just for ratting with an air rifle you still can’t go wrong with an old Photon XT. Perfectly good enough for the job & will still easily do foxes out to 200m with the right IR if you wanted to stick it on your main rifle. You can pick them up for around the £100-150 mark & they are pretty bomb proof (to give an indication of their usefulness I actually had mine for sale recently complete with doubler but decided to keep hold of it in the end as it’s worth more to me as a spare than I’d get for it). Failing that you can pick a Mk1 Pard 007 up for similar money that would also do the job absolutely fine (plus you could use it on your fox rig whilst you save up).👍

That would work. Or, if you have a SF cheapish scope already, just get a Pard 007 or one of the similar style add ons. Facebook scope groups have this style NV from about £65 upwards.......Megaorei made a knock off as did Sytong. The Sytongs are pretty good TBH......

If you only need it for rats on an air rifle, difficult to beat.

Photon: I have 3, standard sitting on Daystate for ratting and with a small IR torch is excellent. 2nd has doubler and is on .243. 3rd has camera lenses conversion.
Simple good on batteries and faultless.
Put a wanted ad on here and see what turns up.

I’ve a photon that’s had very little use also have a new photon boxed and a sight mark wrath that’s had very little use let me know is your interested can what’s app photos

Hello, The M5 can be a pain to set up due to the mounts not being aligned, I tried my M5 but could not get a decent POI so use as a spotter, For a bit more money a second hand Wraith/ Photon or similar, I have a Sytong HT 60 and a ATN Day/Night scope on offer,

@ATN_UK_RM’s X Sight is cheap and decent as long as the range is +25 yards, that’s its base parallax. I use on rats down to 10 metres but the image isn’t great due to the min focus. Pard 007 add on is ideal. No loss of zero and very easy with integrated IR. Buy a couple of batteries. That’s what I use on my 22LR and 17HMR… rats, rabbits, foxes.

You can pick up early versions of the V1 Arken (now DNT) Zulus really cheap.

I've an Arken Zulus 5-12x non-LRF on my .223 and I think I paid about £300 for it. Probably worth half that now as it's the pre DNT version with no LRF and no ballistics.

Still perfectly functional so maybe have a look around for one of those.

Might out mine at some point, move my Alpex 4K Lite to my 223, and buy the new DNT 4K

The new dnt looks really good I had my eye on a hik light or it’s bigger brother but after seeing the new DNT it’s thrown a spanner in the works 😂 tempted just to finance one but I’ve never finances anything (excluding my mortgage) and really don’t want to start now 😂

Also, if you have no experience of night vision you don’t know what you like yet. BEst value is if you buy second hand, have a play with it for a few weeks and sell it on if you think it’s missing something etc.

Photon is super easy to shoot. Basically the same as a normal scope. Put a fishing reel coaster on the focus ring and use with lens cap on but central disk removed which effectively increases the depth of field.
Pin sharp focus from 5 to 50yds with correct IR. 2 AA batteries will last hours esp if using external IR. I suggest you should take up one of the offers made on this thread.
