Magtec primers. Are CCI worth twice the price?

So. As you have probably worked out, I am just getting into reloading.
I was lucky and managed to pick up 300 CCI 400 SRP at £10/100.
This has now jumped to £16.75/100.

Reviews of Magtec on here are varied, but I can pick them up locally at £8 /100 or £7.50 if I order through the club from Henry Cranks.

Are CCI really worth double?

Thanks, TD66

Sometimes can be more to it for examples small rifle primers can be impacted with firing pin size and powder/temp sensitivity too as seen with creedmoor and n150

Mine have all been ar15 , tikka, and stiller action for small and large rifle primer use for 223 and 308 and all good in use

I've had one magtech large pistol primer fail, the other 1999 I bought worked perfectly though.

I'm on federal now but that's only because the magtech were out of stock and they were the cheapest ones at the time.

The one failure I had certainly wouldn't put me off buying them again.

Rifle wise I cant comment, ive always used CCI and currently have a got a stack of RWS.

How far southwest are you? Dealer in Bristol is going to place an order for S&B primers shortly at £95/1k and is taking orders.

But to answer your question I use magtech large rifle and small pistol with no issues at all. But since I have started with this reliable source of S&B been using them.

Yes, I've used several thousand of CCI without any misfires, unlike Magtech which are running at around 1/100, perhaps more. No problem for range practice but the last thing that you need out stalking.

Laurie did a review on them and rated them quite highly.
You could DM him and ask him to repost the test article e wrote on SRP.

The price of primers in the US is falling. They are now available for around $50/1000 for some brands, according to contributors on the Reloading Podcast.
In the past the UK has about 6-8 months behind.

I use Magtech SP primers without any issues. Have just bought Fiocchi LR primers as they were the same price as others at around £114 (Including the Magtech) but 1500 instead of the usual 1000.

Regards

I've shot at least 3000 of the fiocchi and never had an issue, I stocked up just before lockdown and it's all I could get.
I always used CCi but I've never bought them since as I genuinely can't see the difference apart from price.
