Add ons.

I have a Pard 007sp and it’s a game changer for the last 15mins of legal shooting.

Best of both worlds with a daytime scope that can accommodate an add on

Make sure to use a scope with low base magnification (mine is 2.5x which works great)

Thank you. Would 3x work?

Pertinent to this if you plan on taking advantage of the new CL55 night licence they have some highly specific criteria for what you can use under licence for deer

I think the trick is getting the right scope for the add on, as has been suggested. I use a 2-16×50 element helix and the field of view is so wide the illuminator doesn't flood that far. That said, the image is ok at 2x but zooming into 4x once you've picked up the target improves it no end. I think I prefer using my zulus on my .222 at night, just because it's so compact, but using the pard sp on my .243 is no major difficulty and i get to retain a day scope.

Hmmm.
I think the problem now is we are truly spoiled for choice!
For example…. when I bought my first Pard 007S(?) I thought it was the greatest thing since sliced bread - replaced the decent glass on the triple deuce with a cheap 3-9x Hawke and the darkest of nights was mine - no more need for an assistant toting lamp and battery so solo nights were a doddle, no more lighting up the countryside either.
Then the 008P came along and improved my lot, err, a lot - so off came the cheap Hawke and the 007 was demoted to the wee rifle - on which it was and still is absolutely great for bunnies.
Then the Zulus V1 emerged and it replaced the 008 on the triple deuce and was thus demoted to the .17hmr - which for bunnies and short-range foxes was and still is a great combo.
Finally (so far…) the Zulus V2 arrived; yep it replaced the V1 on the triple deuce which was then put on the wee rifle - thus making the cheap Hawke and the 007 redundant - except I put a collar on my 6.5x55 SE and got some nice footage of deer and shots with the temporarily promoted 007.
Finally this year I replaced the S&B on the 6.5 with the Zulus V1 and got some memorable footage in Perthshire - happy chappie.
Then I came home and took the V1 off the 6.5, put it back on the wee rifle and reinstalled the S&B on the 6.5.
Dunno what I will do next or with which combination (NB the new DNT scope would look good on my .308) but if all this modern stuff never was invented it would certainly have saved me a lot of faffing.
Why do I now find myself humming the Hokey Cokey…..

Well currently I'm using
Pulsar Thermion 2 LRF XL60 on QD mounts
Pards 007 / 007s (Yes I have 2) with a pbir-l / x / c depending on the job
or if I forget to take anything... I have a Nightmaster Eclipse or 400 in the truck with Scope mounts for good old glass

Looking forward to wasting a load of the ammo for the night shooting course.

And yes I also much prefer to stalk using glass during the day, but the thermal is so useful for work

I'm constantly lamenting the loss of a scope . Nothing beats a scope for daytime use.
My Zulus is fantastic at night and not to bad in the day but never as good as glass.
My pard ds on the hmr is mediocre but ok.
Again I miss glass for daytime. Having to switch on and off, carry cells. Focus every shot. Bright sun and pixelation blah blah.

I'm constantly tempted to get a good add on.
A pard 007sp 4k maybe.
I had a 2k version but had it on a scope that would not come below 6x so it was difficult to acquire a target sometimes due to lack of fov from the add ons high base mag of 2x.

With hind sight I should of got a different scope.

Anyway, one doesn't hear much about add ons any more let alone the 007sp range.
My sytong 66 is getting on now but still delivers at night.

I know one has to compromise shooting position of the head some but off sticks it's not so bad.

Has anyone else considered going back to a glass/ add on combination? Or is it just me?
Yes, but not yet, I suspect that quality glass and a demountable front end NV might be the best combination, I'll let someone else do the expensive finding out bit first!

Just taken the Alpex LRF off and put my dayscope back on . Glad I didn't part with the Vulpine mk3 . I keep reading how add-ons require more ir than digital scopes yet I can see further with the Vulpine than the Alpex using the same ir .
The Alpex offers a more complete package.
Next week, I'll probably change my mind .🤷

Well I've had a swap around and took the pard ds off the hmr and put it on an air rifle.
I then put the an MTC 3-10 on the hmr and this morning after zeroing yesterday whet out in the dark with my old Sytong and an illuminator. It worked fine but when it came light what a joy it was to be back on glass hinting squirrels. No buttons or battery, just a scope.

Now, the 222, it has a Zulus on it and it's just too good. I'm struggling to justify a switch back to glass and add on. I'll have to leave it as is for a while, see how it goes....

Another convert back to glass from digital. I put an Alpex 4K on my .243 and did not get on with it for some reason so I have put my GPO scope back on and use it for NV if needed with my pard back clip on (the second gen shorter model). For deer I just didnt get on with it compared to glass and for low light I can carry my pard clip on in my pocket and whack it on when needed.
Though to be fair for fox most of the time and rabbits I am using my .17 hornet with a pard thermal mainly as its stupidly light weight for walking around with.

To be honest the image quality from the Pard GPO combo with an IR laser at night is very good so all I lose off the 4K is the range finder and BC but with the .243 that is kind of irrelivant as I have a range finder on my thermal spotter.
