Night shooting deer under CL55 - Police Notifications

At one time I phoned in at the start and the end of a shooting session but it turned in to a far when the call handler wanted to know the ins and outs of everything, And then phoned at 2 o’clock in the morning to see if we were still out even after we had told them we had headed home.
Yes and that's probably the direction things will go eventually for all shooting.

typical lack of joined up government, they haven't asked for you CL55 license number or the site notification number...if the police had access to this then they would know who and where it was taking place.

On the plus side they have a dedicated shooting notification email address

As part of the night license I've had the last 4 winters, pre the new class license, it was always a condition from NE, to notify the police a minimum of 24 hours prior to going out.

One of the many phone calls I had with Sussex 101, they put me on hold for 25minutes while they went and checked if it was legal to shoot deer at night. Eventually they came back and queried it even more. All sorted after a while, but at the end, I did say to them, if was going to shoot deer illegally, it's unlikely I would notify the you, the police, of my intent....

Having notified my Police firearms licensing dept (Sussex ) on the only contact available (an online contact form) I’ve received this back.

Do we really have to go through this every time we wish to carry out a legal activity ? The email address to be used might help some.

LOL we had ( a few yarsa back) a phone a in sytem set up by a new Rural copper . We phoned him a lot of course , explaining he would get a lot of calls if this was implimated , it was knocked on the head real fast, maybe 3 weeks after !
The issue we face , is of course is lack of real understanding and the subject at hand

Northumbria police have a txt msg no I sometimes txt when shooting pigeons 🤷‍♂️
Durham does not the farm a beat & pick up on straddles the boundaries
Not sure if txt msg covers lamping for fox’s
Watch this space

Could you not ask for an incident to be created covering the areas, persons, vehicles details etc. and then just ask the police to reopen that incident every time you go out . Quoting that incident number. Would save a lot of time

fantastic

as do i looks like its fine for charlie but ridiculous for deer .......
Its a requirement so no real choice for those who are going to do it (sensible or not). I imagine there will be a lot more calls to the police of people shooting deer at night and at least if they know someone is out and about there may be fewer helicopters and armed response units called....lets see :)

But every night shooters are out shooting foxes and rabbits and there are no helicopters called out.

As its a requirement thats fine , needs must.

One of the conditions on one of my permissions asks me to inform the Police when I’m going on their land. To be fair, it’s not night shooting. I email saying ‘deer management will be taking place today between …hrs and …hrs in the (postcode) area’
That’s it. I once received an email back asking all kinds of details, and I looked at that and thought - enoughs is enough. I’ve told you where and when I’ll be stalking, that’s it.

Never had that reply since.

Some of the areas with heavy populations of deer the police keep an eye out and any reports of "unusual activity" will get a visit. I know of lads who have had 3 shots at foxes and the next thing there are angry shouts of "leave those f***ing deer alone"..and the police have been called.

Ultimately we need to do our bit to comply with the law and these type of requirements, whether we agree with them or not. Same with copper when it comes .. end of 👍

If it’s on the licence, just comply, it’s just one email before you go out, preferably the day before and keep a copy of the cad number on your phone - no big deal if you get a pull you have a reference - makes life easier 👍

Some on here dont know what can be shot at night, hardly suprising people that dont shoot have no idea

Perhaps post the information to the Chief Constable second class the day before. The night shooting licence doesn’t appear to specify who you should inform and how you should inform them.
