Hectares vs Acres - Useful Visual Guide

Broadly speaking and acre is very roughly a fitba pitch.

While ur hectare is 100m x 100m so roughly ur zero range each way.

But looking at a field and saying that's 30 acre is a black art.
Smaller fields I try to guess how many fitba pitches ud get in.
If it's squarish u can guess the length off the 2 sides and work it out from there.

With forestry leases u have no chance of trying to guess it.

Sorry to be a prune, but how is that an excellent visual comparison? 🤔

Could have sworn that something times the same something equaled a square. 😆

Have I missed Trump changing the look of squares as part of his world domination?😆
Yes. But it is topographical.

I have a free field measuring app on my phone. It's very handy. I can walk around the perimeter of a bit of land, and it will tell me the area in acres or hectares.
It can also be used for distance measuring, for example when setting out targets at 100m, 150m, 200m etc.
Can also measure distances on screen, so for example if you're sitting in a highseat you can use it to range key landscape features (such as the edge of a wood, or a prominent tree, or an angle in a fenceline) which is all handy knowledge to have when a deer pops out in front.

Land app is very useful Tim - do it all from the sofa - if you want

10 Chain = 1Furlong.
KB.
Ps. We used to learn tables by repeating parrot fashion in school. Never forget them that way.

I'm a bit young for that.
I can mind the older forestry boys on about it.
They used to get paid by the chain cleaning forest drains out by hand with rutters and hawks.
Men were men is those days.

Is a chain 22yds?

I always thought a furlong was either 12 or 16 chains.
10 does not ring a bell but I don't really know.

How many furlongs to a mile?

Makes u wonder wot drugs who ever came up with the imperial system was on.
Absolutely no similarities between inches 12, feet 3, yards 22, furlong, mile
And ur weights are another completely random numbers.
Ozs, lbs, stones, underweight, T

1 million acre game reserve in Mozambique
Pffft!
Anna Creek Station in South Australia is the largest working cattle station in Australia (and the world), covering approximately 5.8 million to 6 million acres (

It is larger than the country of Israel and over seven times the size of the largest ranch in the United States.
that is all of Cornwall and a bit of Devon
See above John lol.

Walk? Timmy old chap...open computer and either use g earth or g maps and you will get as good as from your desk including the area in square metres etc I`m sure you know this anyway ha ha.
I had a non computer age neighbour that thought one of his paddocks was 20 acres and would do for an experimental crop. I told him " its 30 acres you know" Next I was asked 'can ye tell me how much land is in the blah blah paddock (s) and how long are my boundary fences. I use to calculate distance of a to b to c in the bush.

It's good to walk.
