Deerstalking Fair, 23/24 March 2013

Some people need to get a life if you don't hang about for the draw tuff, next time don't buy a ticket if your not going to wait for the draw simple !
As for people moaning i wont be going next time there was nothing for the misses ,next time go on your own or do you need somebody to hold your hand it was clearly advertised as a DEER STALKING FAIR the clues in the title no new sinks or washing machines for sale !

Brilliant :) have to agree! My wife came down with me but knew it was a stalking fair and she thought it was quite interesting!!! I must just be lucky lol!!!

+1 Good Post

my wife and kids came and really enjoyed it , in fact the wife spent more money then me( 150quid on a shooting jacket) but she knew what to expect and so did the kids.
great event only problem i can see is if it gets any bigger where is it going to be held as it looked like there wernt much space for any other stands?

Great venue if it was to get bigger a few large tented areas but i must say the bit were the CIC was had some room for a few other stands. Bet Old .

CIC UK Is still thawing out, It was cold in there on the Saturday.

Glad to hear that most enjoyed the event.

I will clear up a couple of points. I accept that bringing the draw forward by an hour or so may have caused a wee issue. However, the result was broadcast on the PA system meaning anyone in the building would have heard it. the intention to bring it forward was announced before the draw and after no one came forward initially to claim the prize a full 10 minutes was waited before another ticket was redrawn with several calls for the winner in that period. If the owner of the first ticket had turned up to claim his prize having left and subsequently being told he had missed out, we would have compensated them.

One thing I cannot accept however is any confusion over the draw only relating to being there to claim at the time and not have a prize sent on. It was made very clear on the sale of every ticket, and obviously made even more obvious by the non requirement to fill out any contact details, that the draw was a claim on the day only one. No one involved in the fair or helping out took any contact details so a winner could be notified in their absence so I have no idea where that thought came from???

It does not matter if a raffle elsewhere allows for contact details to be left, our rules meant that would not happen.

And as for the tickets being expensive, well it's a bit like complaints on here about stalking fees. If you know the price up front and are not happy, don't buy. However, a £5 gamble for a pair of £1500+ Binos and a runner up prize of a £220 jacket each day, I honestly don't think was a bad deal?

Really enjoyed it had a few pints and a burger and left a few pounds lighter! The Belguim chap giving the talk on the tracking dogs was really professional and informative the only downside being he had to shout to be heard due to being next to the bar area also would have loved to have seen a display by one of the dogs outside doing their stuff.
All in though i think the organisers should take a huge pat on the back for having the balls to do it!
Well done all.

Brian
i had a great day and was quite impressed at the quality of stands there was
not a big show by any standard, but one that I am sure will expand from year to year
big pat on the back and credit to you and those involved in setting it up
next year should be easier ... Lol
will catch up soon

i have to agree with this, really how much do some people think is a fair price...... 50p???? Get a life....it's a fiver if you can't afford that don't buy the ticket simple.
On a plus note Jamross65 thank you for organising this fair it was a welcome change. And I really hope that you can build on the success of this years fair, And remember there will always be people that criticise..... They are usually the people who do F*** all.....

Once again thanks

my only complaint on the raffle was my lack of success, guess I should have brought more tickets! The 5 quid price tag was very reasonable, given the odds of winning were pretty good. In all we all thought it was a great show, well done to you Brian and all of the others envolved. Can't wait for next year.

Another point to comment on I see.....

This was a fair dedicated to stalking, as promised. I am sorry, but the will never be a move to any add ons to accommodate non stalkers. My 10 and 12 year old spent the whole of Saturday there and didnt want to leave. the fair will continue to only have related products and where we can will include more stands offering that. There are a lot of good suggestions and ideas coming from conversations over the weekend, but what was great for us was that every single trader we spoke to has echoed the desire for the above. And every single trader told us by Saturday they would be back next year.

There is scope to expand into a couple of large marquees and join them onto the halls, but then we are dependant on reasonable weather.

If the feedback is this positive after its first year then hopefully what we have learned will allow for improvement for the next one...

Believe it or not I have just left Rudi in the hotel and the idea of a practical demo in the grounds on a track is already in the plans for next year!!! So great minds think alike. Lol. Glad you enjoyed his input.

You know your, dammed if you do, dammed if you don't, great day had, and met up with a few people for a chat.

George.

Only disappointment for me was not getting the chance to meet in person some of the members on here I converse with. Will make the effort next year as it should be easier after this experience, Stevie and I will be more relaxed, and I will get more that4 hours sleep since 05.00 on Thursday morning...

150 mile round trip , but worth it , I didn't need anything ( couldn't afford anything lol ) ,but really enjoyed the butchery demo and met a few guys from here

I'll bet that you will worry as much and get just as little sleep next year.

Just been forwarded this email, hope the sender does not mind me posting it here as it seems to echo what 99% of others have said to us over the last 2 days.

Dear Steven and Brian, Seven of us travelled down to your/ our fair yesterday, we all thoroughly enjoyed it, meeting friends old and some new on the day, we all agreed you,ve got it right. I am a trade gun/ rifle smith and I met a few members of the trade whom I had only dealt with by telephone and it was great to put faces to the voices on the other end of a wire.
Entry and catering prices were more than reasonable and all your staff very helpful and it is a great venue.
Quite a few of us had a gathering before leaving for home and look forward to meeting up again next year but one of our group put a scare on us by saying that there was a suggestion that the other mainstream sports such as game shooting and fishing should also be represented, our opinion is that should not happen. We already have Scone, Moy and the Borders game fair as well as the C L A and sorry to be selfish but your event is the one we have been waiting years for so please don't do it, we have until now felt like the " *******" child always hidden in the background until now and we don't want to go back.
Thanks again from all of us(21 so I am told) for a really enjoyable day, you got it right.
Kindest regards,

Kindest regards,

Just about sums it up. Well done guys. Looking forward to next year already.

Brian..Ive thanked you and Steve by text but just wanted to echo the sentiments reflected above.
I'm still overwhelmed by the uptake on the quad sticks...amazing...and I look forward to next year.
Thanks to all the sd members who introduced themselves and I can only apologise if I was distracted to demonstrate the sticks again.
