Hi all, I recently had a birthday and have done some work on a local farm/holiday resort thingy and have about 100 pounds left ( I put the rest in my savings ). Anyway, I was just wondering what deer stalking books are a good read, or even which manuals/guides would be good to buy?

Cheers

If you ever get enough deer books and fancy an interesting read about deer and history of deer in Britain then get Some account of English deer parks by Evelyn Philip Shirley ,a fascinating read and goes someway to explaining the deer populations around our island .

Read anything from Whitehead, early Prior and some of the aforementioned but try to avoid the 'Jack-a-Nory' commercial dross (there's a lot if it) and you'll find it very quickly -

Also books on the different species can be good reads as some people have specialised (Prior - Roe etc..)

A good place to look for books is Logie Steading - not too far from you - http://www.logie.co.uk/

Brilliant scond hand bookshop with some good shooting books usually - obviously the stock varies and some books can be very expensive but its a great place for spending a while raking around. I bought a second edition of Rualayn Gordon Cumming's "A Lion Hunter in South Africa" - a real find for me - man was a headbanger - died from drink aged 40.
