Frankonia Berlin

I am off to Berlin again next week and have just realised I am staying in the Hilton which is right near the Frankonia shop...is it worth a visit and if so anything specifically a good buy there?

Thanks

Yes it is worth a visit!!!

Traditional German hunting attire is there aplenty, some great clothes. I got a cracking loden jacket there for €99 that I wear alot during the winter. I need a return visit and more suitcase space.

I had a neat little loden ruck sack that I used to use as hand luggage on the plane until I got worried about explosives residues ! It was a perfect size to use as a shooting rest for the rifle and totally quiet.

Not joking but their socks are great. Proper shoe fit and good length, warm and longlasting.

A colleague who does business trips to Germany drops me the odd catalogue.

I've been a worth a look. I managed to get out with my wallet in tacked but friend ended up coming out with a new scope.

I have been to another branch of Frankonia a few times, it is a very good shop, some things are a bit expensive IMHO. Lots of deer dog stuff as well. They also sell a good variety of high viz stuff for driven hunts.

Def worth a visit especially if you are next door.

Cheers

That's the jacket I got. Bloody excellent value. The hood is not worth much and is useless but the jacket is superb. I will be getting another this season as they do post to the U.K..

That looks a good jacket for the money. How do you find it in really cold weather, is it warm, does it cause sweat etc? Thanks in advance...

I've never been cold or wet wearing it. On a mild day beating it can get a bit warm but not so much it bothers me and I just undo it if I warm up.

The lower patch pockets are good for cartridges and there is another pocket behind them too accessed from the rear side. The hand warmer type pockets are in just the right place and there is a smaller zip pocket at the upper left chest ideal for a mobile phone. On the lower rear there is a pocket that goes right across the back of the jacket over your backside which can be used as a game pocket or more practically you can add some padding of your choice and it keeps the backside warm if sitting in a high seat for example.

The inside has quilted lining and there are two pockets one with a zip and there's a draw cord around the middle to tighten it up a bit if desired.

It really is an excellent value jacket that won't break the bank and can be used in all manner of shooting applications. Warm, comfortable and quiet.
I actually wore it around Berlin the day after I bought it because when I was there a couple of years ago we had a wind chill of -20 with a blizzard and I wanted something warmer. I am definitely getting another as a spare.

Here's a pic of me wearing it shooting last season.

Thanks for the reply Adrian. I like the neutral colour as they go with almost any tweed breeks you happen to wear on a formal day...

Many will tell you Loden is too dark for UK woodland stalking but unless you intend to sport a cape made from the stuff I can't see the problem given for years I took to the woods in a Fjällraven loden parka.

Well I am sat in the Hilton Berlin and have just been to Frankonia - certainly an interesting shop to visit but very expensive.

Had a quick visit to Frankonia Hannover today. If I wasn't so skint to start with I would've been by the time I came out.
Still a very expensive shop. Definitely no bargains to be had. They also no longer have the huge selection of old military rifles and accessories they used to.
