If the tables were turned and the UK government was based in Edinburgh. Would the english be happy ?

In 1979 we were told of all the dire economic and social disasters that would befall us if we voted for devolution and were unfortunate enough to succeed in getting it. Well, we didn't get devolution then but within a decade all the terrible consequences happened anyway. That was what the Proclaimers really sang about in 1987 in their "Message from America". Linwood no more, Bathgate no more, Methil no more, Irvine no more. That was all supposed to have been our fault if we became devolved, but we didn't become devolved till 1999 and it happened anyway. So, we've heard it all before and survived to get Devolution in the end. Independence is going to happen too. Relax and prepare to play your full part in the world's youngest and most vibrant nation. Poor old mother England will survive, dinnae fash yersel on that count. Cheerio for now and good luck to you all, however you vote.

Not a problem as far as I be concerned.
As most of the No team like to emphasise - it would appear that the "UK" oil is anticipated at running out around 2035.
So what is the UK government doing to mitigate or address this?
The argument is always don't count on oil revenue - so what is the UK government counting on?
A recent BP press release states that energy demand will continue to rise and in 2035 is expected to have oil, gas and coal accounting for 27%, of demand, each.
That is a huge amount of revenue that will be lost, if it is lost at all.

Yet they also anticipate reserves going on until 2050 at least.
So I am confident that it may be a bit tight in the short term but for my daughters and their children, if they are ever blessed with any, it will be a bright future.
We are on the cusp of great times or about to carry on wading through the same old myre - hence I am voting yes

Um... I thought the whole point was that Scotland is a rather old nation that is trying to get its soveriegnty back? I don't understand the full constitutional complexities, but as I understand it, it's never actually stopped existing as a nation.
As for most vibrant. You've not been abroad much have you?

You do realise that is concerning GLOBAL energy output, same as your reference to oil industry corporation tax income. That's from BP etc GLOBAL profits not just the north sea. rUK would continue to receive them if you whatever you vote, including the profit on your oil after whatever taxation you apply

So what are you saying, that energy consumption will drop in the UK?
When all consumerism is based on gadgets that use power.
Instead of Westminster taking it's larger cut we would have the larger cut and then you can apply whatever taxation you want but we would get a longer lasting and stronger economy.

you need to forget energy and oil, it's the least of our problems. There's not much point in there being electricity in excess or plenty of fuel at the pumps if the country is bankrupted. Look at the economics, understand them and just try and see the nose dive in the making that is Salmond's economic plan.

NHS Scotland operating costs 2013-14 £12b...
Like I said unless you nationalise the oil industry completely (including paying for the eye - watering start up costs) the profits will still be coming back to London

But you can't forget energy as in the future it will be between energy supplies and water resources that wars are fought and used as bargaining chips.
Just look at what Russia is doing by threatening to turn off gas supplies and having friends take over a part of the Ukraine - that's what it will boil down to in the end and nothing else.
Scotland has the opportunity to become self reliant for a long time too come if we take the chance now - as we should have done back in the 70's but were fed a load of mince from the Westminster politicians and we believed it!
Well not is time.
