Food safe metal finish

I have some components for a mincer where the original finish has worn off.

is there a way that I can get these metal components re-finished for not too much money. Must be totally food safe!

Can't you get it shot blasted and bright zinc plated? or is that not food safe? I know it's relatively cheap.

What is the base metal and what is the "finish" that has worn off it?

i.e. Do you mean a paint/lacquer or a metal plating? I am surprised there is anything like that which comes off on a food processing tool component, presumably it has gone into your mince.

Maybe some photographs would explain your problem better?….

Ok I'll give a little more info and hopefully answer a few of your questions...

the unit Is a buffalo CB943.
the finish was stripped off in the dish washer (the instructions dos not say not to clean it in th dishwasher, oops).
the damaged parts are all of the parts which come into contact with the meat.
i can find spares for all parts except the worm.

after the damaged occurred to my mincer the company who sold it replaces the entire unit, therefore I now have a spare unit that if I can get something done to fix the problem cheaply might be used. Otherwise I'll just keep the motor part as a spare

Sorry to be repetitive but what is the base metal and what is the finish that has come off?

"Finish" could be any number of things.

I am a metalworker and am trying to help, but need to know what actually has been damaged. "Worm" and "finish" is not sufficient a description to make a diagnosis!

I can guess that if the dishwasher took it off then it probably was a lacquer but then your op referred earlier to it being worn off which could mean you are referring to plating or Teflon or...

Alan,
thank you for trying to help, I am not a metal expert by any means so might not be able to answer your questions clearly.

the finish looks like some sort of paint or similar rather than plating and was washed off pretty effectively in one normal cycle of the dish washer. Worn off was probably the wrong words to use as it was a brand new machine on its first use.

mine was accidently put in the dish washer yesterday and the polished alloy now looks like its come off an old tractor luckily its only a cheapie'

Mike, just remove any further coating/finsh and make sure that you clean it well after use. The auger is most likely made of ally and although not strictly considered as the best material for food contact, it will be fine. As long as its not porous it's fine.
