Mod comes apart

Hi all,

Only got my first rifle a few weeks ago, and it came with a SAK mod (.17HMR CZ 452 secondhand). trouble is, when i take the mod off, sometimes only the 'exterior' of the mod twists off and it leaves the baffles attached to the rifle. it can be very tricky to get it all off in one piece- is this normal and should the mod exterior come apart from the baffles like that? and is it safe to continue using the mod/rifle?

Cheers,

Mitch

You need to clean your muzzle threads & make sure the thread is compatible, I had the same exact problem on the same rifle, cleaning the crud from the Li'l Gun powder residue stopped it happening for me, & as long as you re assemble the mod properly you will be O.K., Steve.

A tiny bit of grease on the barrel threads will also help.

You can also tighten up the mod a bit if you have a vice by turning the two endcaps in opposite directions.

Cheers,
Jeff.

OK will try giving the whole thing a clean- is it bad if i use anything to clean the baffles e.g just water and a cloth or something? and i know it sounds daft but should it be sparkly clean inside the mod or does it not matter?

Ah nice never knew that i will give that a try!

Cheers guys!

As for the inside of the mod, just knock most of the gunk out. It'll be dirty again after a couple of shots, so squeaky clean has little benefit.

Cheers,
Jeff.

Cheers Jeff.
just found another thread from a few years back about how dirty this round is! Think I may just invest in a DM80 or something which is a bit better quality!!

Just use the Sac till it either stops working or accuracy suffers, and then make an informed decision.
I and many others have chased after this and that hmr mod, whatever is the currant best/favourite of the day.
It makes little difference to what you or anybody else hears, the Sac isn't the very best, but it is the very cheapest
and a decibel meter would be needed to sort out if the next one you buy is a db better or worse.

Neil. :)

all good advice above,as said the hmr is a very dirty round,a bit of copper grease on the threads as said, but i would just nip the front of the mod whilst holding in one hand with an adjustable spanner(just a nip),always remove it from the barrel when stored and just tap any crap out, then fully strip every100 rounds

Yer nottoo worried about the noise re my hearing as im partially deaf and the .17 isnt that loud, just trying to get something that is reliable, easy to clean and does its job to a half decent standard! may as well keep the sac till it breakd i 'spose!

Yer i always take mod off my .22, but the hmr barrel has been shortened, and now wont rest between the barrel holders in the safe without the mod on as its too short!
any innovative ideas on how to sort this?

Cheers,

Mitchell

I have the same rifle and mod, and had the same problem. The fix above will sort it out for you.
