Nice work Klenchblaize!!
over a bait point or stalking??
Sorry for delay in replying. All stalked/walked up. Had 6 more PM the same day.

Going to be back in the woods for 4 days from Monday and may go for the on-the-ground only approach to squirrel hunting with the 22 Hornet. Would make a good SD write up but doubt it can compete with the interest in Brexit so will take a view.

The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs advocates controlling grey squirrels and encourages land owners to do this on their website. Although they also say that it's not everyone's "cup of tea". You will always have land owners who are against anything being killed, so you are never going to totally eradicate them. They are so widespread that it is probably not possible to eradicate them from the British Isles anyway, as the Anglesey thing shows. However, that shouldn't stop us trying, especially in areas with reds and nearby areas.

Just import some irish pine martens ,i havn't seen a grey now in about 7 years and there were plenty round here i used to shoot 3-4 most mornings on feed rides and the reds are slowly regaining ground which is great to see

Problem with that approach is Pine Marten are very adventurous in their diet and I don't just mean the West London variety.

Of that i am all to aware im sad to say , 250 plus phezzie poults in one night , dozens of my ornamental call ducks , fancy bantams and myriads of others stock from pet rabbits and guinea pigs to roosting peacocks and lambs

Apologies for posting another trap video but this one from Shawn Woods of Mousetrapmonday fame shows a squirrel getting whacked in an A24.

Check out his other trap videos.

brilliant is there a extra large version available for scrotes breaking into peoples properties?

I might make one and connect it to my 20cfm compressor.

I love Mousetrap Monday. Been showing them to my nephew for a coupla years now, he loves them

I recently got fed up with my standard mouse traps not always being successful. Nothing worse than finding your trap triggered but empty. I followed Shawn's advice and recreated Mascal's 400yr old trap and it is brutally effective. It currently has a 100% hit rate and I am closing in on 50 mice. Brilliant invention.

this trap been approved for use under The Spring Traps Approval Order 2018 BUT ;-

''The trap must be so placed that it can only be entered by way of an artificial tunnel which is suitable for the purpose.''

So it can't just be planted on a pole / tree without a form of artificial tunnel or does the small tube count as the artificial ?

Probably something similar to the ‘tunnel’ they already supply for the A24 to prevent non-target species entering:

A24 Tunnel

has the approval been passed ? The document I attached is. draft / proposal to the approval regs and I can't find any document to say that it has actually been arrived for use....

From the company blurb it has passed approval and some retailers are quoting a release date of 30th November.

Presumably it's tied to when the Order gets put on the books>

Trials in the UK of lures for Grey Squirrels appear to have been underway earlier this Autumn.

I love eating squirrel. Those old enough may remember the back cover of the American "Guns & Ammo" used to have a Savage advertisement that usually featured a each month a different .22LR and a different recipe for squirrel or deer or other. Back in the day of Keith, Askins, Cooper (before he got silly) Nonte and other GOOD gun writers. I wouldn't buy it now.
