Just found an 8mm Bruni Auto Pistol!

I have just started Magnet Fishing as a form of relaxation and a way of getting some fresh air and some peace and quiet.
I was out on my second magnet fishing trip this evening on the Rochdale to Leeds Canal near Clegg Hall and I fished out a Bruni 8mm Automatic Pistol. The gun was in quite good condition so I suspect that it hadn't been dumped in the canal too long ago.
Naturally I called the police and handed the gun straight over to them.
Here's a video showing the finding of the gun:

Blimey. Will be interesting to find out if it has been used for some nefarious purpose. Whoever lost it is probably in big trouble from the owner anyway

I did do a pretty thorough search for the magazine but no luck.
I did have thoughts about what a gun like that might have been used for.
It really was in such good condition that with a good strip and clean it might well have ended up in good working order. The police told me that the forensics might be able to find out a bit more about the gun - I didn't find a serial number but I didn't want to try stripping it to look for one.

Not to piss on your fire as it were but you say its an 8mm automatic 1911 ? I see it put the wind up you don't think i'v never seen a man shake so much holding one , so its an 8mm blank ? but a nice find even so . oh and thats the ejection port and hood thats part of the barrel you can also see its a blank as its got the gas port drilled into the hood and mock barrel mono block as it cant be removed like a real one  here is a vid of how a real one works then a strip down on your find i hope it helps should you find a real one next time , Handguns for dummies - YouTube
and now your automatic Bruni M1911 Review - YouTube .think they were around £100 new and could be obtained in most fishing or airgun shops some years back.

I did Google the Bruni 8mm and saw that blank firing pistols were available. Still a cool find. On my first go at metal detecting I found a gun although it was a toy cap gun (or possibly a priceless Deringer)

Not worth an emergency 999 call imo. Normal 101 would have been sufficient. And to check if it was loaded it’s easy.
Sorry to come across blunt and hope no offence caused.

I dont agree as they never answer the 101 number where I live so I would have been calling 999 as well.

Sorry, not likely to happen.

Violent crime reduction act requires it painted a distinctive colour - unless a re enactor/ theatre/museum- before acquisition so that means it won't be handed over
Bizarrely if it were an air-pistol - no problem!

Nice find FrenchieBoy - i've done a bit of magnet fishing with my son, but sadly all we find are nails, canal lock keys, and bicycles.
