  1. THE BOW HUNTER

Which is the same with a bullet, one reason neck shots are my least chosen placement.
  2. THE BOW HUNTER

That either means they don’t understand what’s happening, or they don’t express it in the same way.

  4. THE BOW HUNTER

I really don’t think you can put first hand experience against you tube videos, the latter can be completely selective with only the desirable results shown. A well placed rifle shot is generally very humane, I’m sure a well placed arrow with suitable broad head is equally humane. The impact...
  5. A roe deer in the Scottish Borders

@Grandhubert Enjoyed that buddy. Shame you didn’t do a write of ‘that’ pest control visit 🤣
  6. .303 on land passed for .270

If you reload there are options for both.
  7. .303 on land passed for .270

Depends entirely on how you stalk, I have 2 service rifles conditioned for target with deer as their secondary use, a K31 and a No. 4, plus 3 lever actions the same, .357 (vermin and AOLQ) 30-30 and 45-70. I enjoy stalking with them, particularly when I want to make it a bit more of a challenge...
  8. .303 on land passed for .270

    ‘Unrestricted’ ?
  9. THE BOW HUNTER

It’ll never go through on animal welfare grounds whether those grounds are correct or not. I would want to hunt with a traditional bow or at least a recurve, rather than all the bells and whistles. I was a good archery shot in my teens, not so much these days.

    Start reloading…..
  11. THE BOW HUNTER

I think it’s listed as a prohibited method for birds and The Deer Act 1991 specifically prohibits the use of bows/arrows/spears for deer. So it is not that it’s just not listed as a legal method, it is specifically prohibited. I’m all for bow hunting and would love to do it!
  12. THE BOW HUNTER

Is it not specifically prohibited in 1The Countryside and Wildlife Act?
  13. Substantial, huh?

Probably, but I would suggest the men who can’t do anything with 20 guns, also likely couldn’t do anything with just 1. And the men with 1 gun likely could do just as well with 20!
  14. Substantial, huh?

If you say so. For deer I could get by with just the .280, but where’s the fun in that? Suppose I could shoot foxes, rabbits and rats with it but that would get expensive with copper bullets and damage the yards where the rats are and have the livestock in the barns going mental. As for...
  15. Substantial, huh?

Yeah, I don’t really subscribe to that, all CF deer and fox rifles are zeroed 1.8” high so are bang on out to 225 yards, a coupe of inches to 250. If I’m going further than 250 then I take the .280 or on the odd occasion the 300 PRC. The only exceptions being the 45-70 and 30-30 lever guns...
