Yes 200gr bullets are excellent in .308 if the firing pin hole is small enough not to blow primers with a beefy powder charge. One of my pals uses 200gr Hornady ELDX bullets in his .308 Sig SSG3000 and gets incredible long range accuracy.
I own a Webley 700 made in the early 1960s. It has not been used much and has nice colour case hardening. In terms of handling it is light and beautifully balanced and has 3/8 choke in the right barrel and full choke in the left. The butt is a bit short for me so I use a slip on leather butt pad...
I am on a small budget so I only buy second hand rifles. They are excellent value for money and all shoot better than I can. A good cheap source is Holt's auctions where I have bought two BSA Hunter rifles, one in 7x57 and one in .222 which are superb quality and only cost a few hundred quid...
Yes Accuracy International's design of an aluminium chassis into which the rifle's barrelled action was fastened was a huge step forward compared to the one piece wood/composite stocks that usually housed the barrelled action for sniper rifles around the world back then in the 1970s (Remy 700...
I don't use any programs to estimate pressure. I just look out for pressure signs such as sticky bolt lift and cratered primers, then reduce the powder load by 0.1gr to get a moderate pressure load. My 7x57 rifle likes N150 but your rifle may differ. I just do target shooting these days as I...
Yes it's a decent velocity. Pressure for this powder load is moderate. The next powder increment up (46.2gr N150) started to show some primer cratering on hotter days, therefore I settled on 46.1gr N150 as the sensible moderate pressure load as I want something that will work in cool and warm...
I am a fan of 160gr bullets in 7x57 as they are a good compromise of high ballistic coefficient and moderate recoil. I am averaging 2797.5 fps with 46.1gr N150 and 160gr TMK bullets in my 23 inch barrel 7x57 BSA Hunter. The extreme spread for 5 shots of this load is 11.4fps and the SD is 4fps...
