  1. Level actions - typical usage

I use copper now for the .270 when im not shooting for my own freezer. But it doesn't preform well at the ranges I require sometimes on big reds. So I find it very restrictive. I have no choice but to go bigger, push heavier copper chunks that keep up the speed and energy at the required...
  2. Level actions - typical usage

Exactly, once lead is gone its gone. Then I cant beat it so I will join it, will be the 7mm PRC for me and copper and smash everything to bits. Turn roe into red mist and 2 back legs.
  3. Level actions - typical usage

They will cycle, but it limits your powder charge ability due to how deep they are seated. I had to stop a whole grain short of max to get the bullet to seat deep enough for it to cycle. The charge is still heavily compressed! Issue i found was if you dont have them deep enough to cycle from the...
  4. Level actions - typical usage

Yes will see what I get on paper this weekend. Fingers crossed for some good results.
  5. Level actions - typical usage

Haven't shot anything with the new load for the 30-30 yet. Only worked up and tested it over the easter weekend at 100 yards. Will be stretching its legs this weekend fingers crossed on 200+ yards. So far at 100 im getting 1.1 MOA off sticks so im very happy with that as the flat nose Sierra...
  6. Level actions - typical usage

Using 210 yard zero. 3.6" high at 120 and 4" low at 250 easy to compensate for that no issues at all. I run all my deer rifles the same way, max point blank range zero distance for 4 high and 4 low. Then dial for anything over that on the bigger rifles.
  7. Level actions - typical usage

    2310fps average
  8. Level actions - typical usage

Got a 30-30 marlin 336, has a nice little 4x40 scope with a set of warn hollow base mounts so still use the open sights if im feeling brave. Condition for deer and AOLQ. my favourite gun in the cabinet and would pick it up to go for a stalk over anything else any day of the week. Especially if...
  9. Hawke optics

I have a Hawke on a .22lr, cant fault it its a 4-12 x 40 AO. mill dot retical is a bit thick if I'm being picky but that's about it. i think it depends on what you want, I'm not a glass snob at all, I have all sorts of glass but the one i like the most and have 2 of them is the Element Optics...
  10. 30-30 and pointy bullets

When forced to use copper we will have the same issue with the 30-30, the lack of speed thus lack of expansion of copper will reduce the range back down again to probably less than a standard 30-30 flat point jacketed lead bullet i expect.
  11. 30-30 and pointy bullets

I love my 30-30. proper little carry anywhere gun, but the lack of range and muzzle energy for Reds has been an issue for me over the last 5 months since getting my new permission so the .270 has taken top spot again and plus my game dealer only accept non-toxic shot only so the .270 has been my...
