  1. For Sale: Knife Sharpening/ Regrinding service

Sent you a PM fella. Hopefully we can now communicate.
  2. Quad sticks

I use 4-Stable sticks and would not go stalking without them these days ..... BUT ... Almost everyone will tell you that the sticks they use are the best. They pretty well all do exactly the same thing so just get a set of whatever suits your budget and tastes and use them ;)
  3. Black Fox

I used to know a 'keeper who was mad for stuffed oddities. He paid a small fortune (in my eyes) to have both a black and an albino grey squirrel taxidermied, along with both black and white pheasants. He'd have probably broken the bank for a pure black fox. I've never seen one myself. Had a few...
  4. the hunter killed by elephants recently.

I remember reading in old book about big game hunting in Africa, an account of a chap who followed an injured elephant into some mopani scrub. The elephant found him first .... It not only killed him PDQ, it then pounded him into the ground ( I believe they do this by kneeling on you) to the...
  5. Scope for a .270

https://www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk/threads/hawke-optics.328743/#post-3463723 See post #19. Not only will it do all you want it to do it will be 'in budget' too.
  6. As we get older ..

Good rum cures all ills. 'Tis but distilled sunshine !
  7. Rabbit damage

You lucky so-and-so's. I wish we had enough bunnies to shoot a few. Was the day I could easily wander round the farm and shoot 40 or more, and do the same the next night if needs be. Now it's dire. In more than a dozen mooches around the same ground looking for deer I have seen but one rabbit.
  8. Roadside barrier

It's not just by accident that certain 4x4's get driven through hedges ;) The landowner has probably had enough of it.
  9. Supermarket parking.

Not long ago I was shunted from behind whilst stationary at a pedestrian crossing. The vehicle was one of those miniature 'granny wagons' with wheels like something from Lego. There was quite a bang. I climbed out and saw the front of said granny wagon crumpled completely. Bonnet bent, grill...
  10. Blackbirds fighting !

I have started to find discarded halves of blackbird egg shells on my walks already so the birds are getting 'proper touchy' about what others are anywhere near their nests.
  11. Mmm , oh deer ! Pun intended .

Because the rifle goes 'bang' and the deer go 'flop' ;)
  12. Reload help please

I inherited my reloading kit from a dear friend who was a gunshop manager. Along with the much needed .270 dies there were dies for about 8 other calibres. Looks like I have some spending to do ! A nice new 22.250, a .22 Hornet, and a .223 to name but three !
  13. What did John see I can't?

My guess is "Tone deaf gold-digger with no gag reflex".
  14. Mmm , oh deer ! Pun intended .

It's the nut behind the bolt that makes the shot, not the calibre. You'd be hard pressed to find a rifle I couldn't miss with if it suited ;)
  15. Moderator cover?

If you have mounted your scope 'properly' and used mounts that keep it as close to the action as possible then I'd advise against a neoprene cover. I bought one for my .270 mod without thinking it through. Once fitted it impedes with the bottom of your sight picture if the neoprene is too thick...
