  1. Bino Use With Glasses

What is the eye relief of your binoculars. Anything below 15mm may limit your full field of view if wearing spectacles. Are you experiencing vignetting ( dark around the outside?). The size of the lenses make no difference, it’s the eye relief. Depending on you own diopter requirements, it...
  2. Zeiss quitting the sport optic market

I know I have a bias, but thermal / digital has a place, nowadays no doubt, but at this moment in time, for pure observation during stalking hours, conventional optics still offer a better, clearer and safer view ( depends on which brands). The Chinese have the technology and the capacity to...
  3. Leica Fortis Glossy - any first-hand experience?

Hi I am not going to comment on your opinion as to the scope and what it looks like, as that is an opinion, however, I feel I should correct the part of the statement where you mention “high polished plastic coating, which it is” In fact the body is aluminium with a hard anodised finish (pretty...
  4. Lecia ballistic data for Binos

If you are attending The Stalking Show, come to the Leica stand and myself or my colleague can check it out for you.
  5. Lecia ballistic data for Binos

You can set your binos to match the adjustments of the riflescope in question within the Geovid menu. Whether the scope is 1cm or 1/4 MOA adjustments ( and others). If you are looking at the Leica ballistic tool programme then it does only show Leica, but the Geovid works in conjunction with...
  6. Leica Fortis Glossy - any first-hand experience?

You can see it at The Stalking Show in April.
  7. Leica Amplus 6 vs Zeiss V6

There is a reason why there is a weight difference. The tube thickness ( not the size of the tube which is 30mm), but the thickness of the material. As I work for the company, It would be wrong to quote the relevant thickness of each competitor, but as I have also worked for 18 yrs with a...
  8. Older binos- Zeiss BGAT P or Swaro El/SLC

Some models didn’t have the * symbol after both the T or P. If you see them with T* P then they are most probably the same as T* P*. I posted earlier that the P* ( phase corrected roof prisms) is from 1989; in fact a typo ( and I didn’t edit in time) as it was from 1988. T* from 1979. IMHO...
  9. Leica calonox thermal add on

Bruce. In my defence. i would say that your posts are very informative and I read with interest. This is a genuine comment and not meant any other way. As for no expertise, I can tell you that in the case of Calonox 2; the product manager before joining Leica was instrumental in thermal imaging...
  10. Leica calonox thermal add on

And no one has them in the UK, not Calonox 2 Sight, so can’t understand how negative comments can be made. There has been a delay in the delivery. All European components in the Calonox 2 series. A demo sample will be at the Cluny event in a few weeks time.
  11. What size scope??

I’m not so sure that you loose image quality nowadays between a fixed and variable magnification scope. As for build quality, or lets say weight. Some manufacturers have a wall thickness of between 0.7-0.8mm, 0.9-1.0mm and another 1.3-1.4mm, so some are more robust than others and as a result...
  12. Older binos- Zeiss BGAT P or Swaro El/SLC

Didn’t flop, just heavy due to the flint glass in the objective lens, but excellent in low light. If you have a P or P* then they were manufactured after 1989. The HT’s are different as they incorporate the HT glass, which further reduces the amount of light loss passing through the glass and...
  13. Older binos- Zeiss BGAT P or Swaro El/SLC

Dialyt 7x42 BGAT* all day long. Discontinued in the early / mid 2000’s, but even some of todays offerings do not compare with this model in optical performance. Forget the “weatherproof” as opposed to waterproof. I never saw one that had leaked. At the time they were described as “The...

  15. Leica Geovid measurement units change.HELP.

The original Geovid had to be ordered in either in yards or metres. The Geovid with the open bridge design come with the option of switching between yards or metres. The latest Geovid R (no ballistics, but has EHR) has the option of switching between yards or metres.
