  1. Access

I walked away from a lease for the same reason.I had to drive through the farm to access the forestry. They changed the padlock on the gate so I couldn't get in. The forestry company got them to put the old padlock back, then the next thing was to leave a tractor on the access track after I had...

  8. Syndicates

This was back at the end of February. I'm culling the deer ,red, Roe and sika, to protect about 600 acres of replanted clearfell of various ages so heavy culling of all the species.
  9. Syndicates

I've been stalking for nearly 50 years now and have shot thousands of deer. I wouldn't say that I get enjoyment in killing deer, but I see it as doing a job to the best of my ability, getting a clean kill that gives me satisfaction. I must admit that I am now getting a bit soft, I recently spent...
  10. Britain’s deer are thriving. It’s a nightmare for the countryside

It's not always about not allowing others on the ground. It's finding stalkers who are willing to put in the effort to cull the deer. I took on an extra piece of forestry from which the forestry company wanted 40 deer shot, mainly red and sika, I took on two stalkers. In the first year I culled...
  11. Bloody magpies!

We don't have game birds up here. What we have are songbirds and a lot of high ground migrants There is a long hedge in front of the house and we now watch the magpies working the hedge. Not just one but four or five and they clear out every nest. First and second brood. When it was one or two...

  13. Bloody magpies!

As Mike1979 says no official surveys have been done but on our farm now there are a lot more magpies than before the ban and getting more each year. Less songbirds successfully rearing young. You can watch magpies working the hedgerows. It's nothing to see as many as a dozen magpies flying about.
  14. Bloody magpies!

You're lucky here in Wales we are not allowed to shoot magpies. Loonies running the asylum
