"Yes they wouldn't stabilise"
Lots of folks shooting long 162 grain ELDm in short barrels with suppressors in factory rifles and barrels in (7/08, .284W, 7 mags) in NZ and having good results.
No, American made sporting cartridge chambers in factory rifles are cut to a standardized specification set out by SAAMI.
The .30-06 was designed with a lighter spitzer shaped loading in mind. The precursors to the 06, the .30 krag and .30-03 may differ.
European manufactures have a similar...
FT3,
If brass fired in another rifle fits in your rifles chamber, without a FLS yes you can prime it, neck size, load and shoot. If it doesn't chamber easily then you will need to FLS.
There are lots of "special processes and tricks" touted in the hornet loading space. It helps to understand...
A std 1:8 to 9.5 twist should be fine. I question you wanting to shoot 150/160 gn copper pills in a 7/08. Normal practice with copper is to drop back 1 to 2 weights and increase MV to get consistent expansion at all ranges. A 120 - 140 gn copper pill gives you the velocity required for...
The rings on your cases are likely due to the sizing die. I have cases and rifles/dies where i also get some rings on the outside of my brass.
As Bowland Blades note above, you can get by just using a mandrel die (Lee) for a hornet and avoiding overworking the thin brass necks.
The thin brass...
I doubt you have any issues with your brass. If you want to be very careful use the wire tool above in Foxy's post.
I've had 3 case separations in 30-06s and a .35 Whelen. Nothing to be concerned about. A bit of gas through the magazine. Shake out the top section of case and keep shooting.
While you're looking for a nice K95 to come up at the right price, keep alert for a Merkel K3 or K4. (alloy or steel receivers). Very nice, accurate, svelte, alternatives to the K95 at a lower price point. Great shooters too.
Hi Guys,
I've had to rejoin the forum again on a new user name due to a change of email address. My previous username was MountainStalker.
So for the introduction I'm a 60 year old aussie bloke living in Sydney who has worked in agriculture as an agronomist, and business leader for public...
If the seating stem is contacting the plastic tip of the projectile before the shoulder on seating, then that is where some of your variation is likely coming from. A bit of variation in length is to be expected. I your aiming for 20 thou jump I'd not be worried unless my groups told me it was a...
I've read notes of guys rebarreling 75's to the 280 AI having issues with the third bolt lug catching on the steep AI case shoulder of the round in the magazine as they go to reload. I'd get a few dummies made up and test it out first if thinking to go this way.
I use 46 grains h4350 which is of a similar burn rate to N160 with a 129 for around 2850 fps. Powders around this burn rate (H414, WW760, RL-19) to the slower RL-22 and H4831are about optimal for the 6.5 swede with 120 - 140+ grain projectiles.
It sounds like an ammo problem and not a barrel problem regardless of the pitting as per Muir's post. There is no guarantee that a new barrel will shoot that particular 75 gn factory offering. You might want to try some other high BC ammo offerings before a rebarrel or even recrown ...
