I wouldn’t say it’s a one trick pony.
It’s a very easy to use multi purpose round that works perfectly for a lot of British conditions: small deer, shorter range.
As a roe deer cartridge, it’s just about perfect.
Interesting you should mention Rum…
The same research group who study the Kilda sheep also run the red deer research on Rum. The deer in the study population (roughly the Northern quarter of the island) aren’t culled.
But, as you might imagine, there is an ongoing tension there too. NatureScot...
A few things I’ve noticed from guiding American clients:
- they REALLY don’t like to crawl.
- they are much more selective about what they shoot, and are perfectly happy to turn down shootable beasts in the hope of finding something better, even if that runs the risk of not shooting anything...
That’s interesting. Are you able to explain the plans?
I’m conflicted on this: I have friends and colleagues who study the sheep, and any active management will have a profound effect on the long term project.
On the other hand, I increasingly understand the welfare argument. My wife (a vet)...
I wouldn’t be that pessimistic.
The split between recreational and operational/management stalking will just become more pronounced.
Absolutely nothing stopping people from keeping to traditional methods when doing it recreationally.
It’s like the difference between industrial trawling for...

It will be very easy to set off a swarm of them each year to cover the ground, search out and inject...
Here’s another way of thinking about it: in the Highlands, it generally doesn’t matter if your beast runs a bit when you hit it. You can see where it goes. So it doesn’t actually matter all that much whether it drops instantly or runs a bit. So actually, it doesn’t really matter that much what...
The Black Dot of Doom has shown that very few people on here can put 3, let alone 5, shots into a 1 MOA target.
Most people wildly overestimate their accuracy…
