This is the direct comparison between AEB-L and Magnacut.
Magnacut edge retention is better, but toughness (resistance to chipping) is improved with AEB-L. For pure meat cutting edge retention is more important as it means longer between sharpening, but for a knife that could be hitting bone -...
This guy knows a thing or two about steel, and helps explain the relationship between steel type, hardness, toughness, blade shape, corrosion resistance carbide size and type...... there is a bit to it...
Tougher or more abrasion resistant steels also burn up more belts, take longer to grind and are harder to polish.... all adding to the cost.
They are harder for the client to sharpen too.
The reality of knives is that the grind and bevel angles are more important to usability and edge...
You could use that to cover up the shiny gold stuff too - winning!
At least the gold inlay adds some rust proofing. I wonder if anyone has used zinc for corrosion protection, as a sacrificial anode.
Not sure that I'm a fan of the light coloured marble cake walnut - not that it is ever likely tto have an impact on my firearms purchasing decisions.
More seriously, that is some outstanding craftmanship. Well done Mauser.
Tell them to stay at home.
We're getting UK cops, and they're bringing their ****ed up attitudes to firearms with them.
Get on board with where you are going, or stay the **** away.
He makes a nice knife - his hunting knives look very close to the style I appreciate, and the prices aren't out of line.
14C28N is a very good steel - tough, corrosion resistant and able to take a very good edge. If it was called cutmaster or something it would sell for twice the price.
I knew a (very tall/6'6") guy who went outside one night and shot a possum off his roof. With a .270.
He then threw it into the guttering and stood there in his dressing gown as lights came on all up and down the street and looked as surprised as his neighbors about the loud noise....
A week...
Don't you hate that "tink"....ahhhh ****. I'll do it differently next time.
You've got while you're removing it to think about how much better a little less pressure on the handles would have been.
