I have half a dozen Exc. and VG condition Oberndorf Mausers to base the "restoration" on...bolt handle, etc...but does anyone know what the original buttplate would have been like? Steel, I assume...but? And can anyone guess at a plausible manufacture date based on the Gibbs serial number...

I probably won't be paying anyone to try and hide the scope base holes. I prefer filler screws rather than welded or peened patches (which in my experience, can nearly always be detected in the right light.) I will probably use Talley scope rings and bases, simply because I already have so many...

I was born in Red Deer. My oldest son and his family still live on the site of my grandfather's ranch just east of Innisfail. My grandfather left Cambridge for the Canadian West. This is a photo of him with his horse, hounds and a coyote.
