  1. .243 powder choice

90gr Scenar in front of 34.2gr N140. Its a spicey load at around 3150 fps that they have since removed from the Viht. manual. I reloaded a few hundred like this in 2014 and ran them through my Tikka T3 without any issue, super flat, group about 1.5" at 100y ...the fireball is a bit off putting...

Hi Ray, Yes this is another issue in my reloading quest, no Henry certified loads available!? I've read that Trapdoor Springfield reloads are a good starting point Reloading for a henry 45-70 - AR15.COM James
  4. Removing live primers

I've had the need to decap live primers loads of times. I put a drop of 3 in 1 oil into the case and make sure it goes through the flash hole, makes them completely inert. J
  5. 223 bullet

I can't find the A-Max anywhere too, I moved to V-max 53gr at the start of the year, loads are comparable, but I did reduce my N140 load by 0.5gr and it was fine. J
  6. Advice on reloading please

As mentioned a few times here, it's always best practice to batch your brass when reloading, PRVI cases and Lapua cases in 7.62x53 differ by about 12gr (lapuas are heavier) You'll always find differences in brass. If a stray case slips through when I'm reloading I normally give it to my dad to...
  7. 45-70 Gvt. Reloading for Henry rifle

Hi Robert, Many thanks for your detailed reply! It sounds like you've honed the art of casting bullets, I'm a simple reloader and I think working a smelting area into my workshop may be a bit above my level of skill! I'm ideally looking for a solution with the minimum of fuss and...
  8. 45-70 Gvt. Reloading for Henry rifle

Leading is something that the rep from Henry in the us said would be an issue, he gave quite a lengthy speech about it, and about the cleaning procedure and products and it put me right off of the idea of using hardcast bullets. I'm not looking to achieve silly pressures or velocity, I just want...

  10. 45-70 Gvt. Reloading for Henry rifle

Hi All, I have ordered a nice new Henry Colour Case Hardened rifle in 45-70gvt, it should arrive in the next few weeks and I'm doing my homework on the best route for reloading. The purpose of the gun is for Lever gun comps, general paper punching, historic/cowboy themed shoots etc. (I'm not...
  11. 243 Rifle Options?

I had a 595 about 4 years ago, then I P/X it for a T3 (bit of a mistake as the 595 is/was lovely)I now I have a Sauer 404 in .308 and a Sauer 202 in .243. Sauers are nice and handy, pretty well made and you can spec them out to make them look fancy or you can go the other way and get them in a...

  15. M39 Finnish nagant markings help

Hey Muir, hmm the original stock which came with the rifle had a small loop guard, it was a bit rusted so I bought a Rock Island mint old stock trigger guard for a couple of quid, I thought that all remington 03A3s came with a small loop guard? See attached images. never had a go with a KrG...
