  1. Full Length Sizing

Do this, raise the ram untill the shell holder touches the die, lower the ram and screw the die in another 1/4 turn. This has always proved successful for me. Then trim to length and de-burr.
  2. Split brass

I just purchased 200 Sako Powerhead once fired cases off an OP on this site, all had been crimped. The crimped edge had multiple micro splits that stopped at the bottom of the crimp. Those cases have been crimped.
  3. 223 case separation.

Does your reloading check include running an opened up paperclip with one end nipped over (3mm ish) to about 60 degrees up and down the inside of the case. It takes a couple of seconds and gives prior warning of the likelihood of a case separation. I reload around 1500 rounds a year and have...
  4. Thermal vs Night vision scopes

Spot fox, rat etc. with thermal spotter. Look through N V on rifle only to loose sight of quarry. Back on thermal, well why couldn't I see it? Maybe because your target does not stand still while you faf about with the ir and NV, or it's moving through scrub. Spot with thermal. Look through...
  5. Caught Today

Take 2 or 3 hens eggs, slightly crack one just exposing the contents onto a plant pot saucer or similar. Place on top of the trap, place the others unbroken into the pots. No need for any nest material. I found this a reliable way of catching the first birds, In the days when it was legal here...
  6. Mounted Torch / Lamp for Night Hunting

This is it, I use it with a low, or high picatinny rail, low at the momentvas it was last used under 12g Remington Semi auto.
  7. Mounted Torch / Lamp for Night Hunting

If you can find one, I have a Tracer Ledray F900. Adjustable spot and power, also has rat tail. Interchange LED white, ir, red and green. The ir was about £50.00 more. It will easily illuminate 200m plus with red led and hundreds further with the green or 800m with the white. (Can't vouch for...
  8. Out last night.

Very mild last night, Hundreds of Frogs and Toads all over the roads, difficult to avoid on a single track roads.
  9. Sako Finlight what scope rings are you using?

Well I sent my scope off to be checked for the issues regarding the retical/scope cant. Sent on the Tuesday, delivered on Thursday, back with me a week on Saturday. Retical / scope cant issue sorted. I've since Zeroed the scope on my Sako .243 at what is my preferred distance of 200m for 75grn...
  10. .243 to .223, purely for fox 🤔

90% of my shooting is in, on and around the Brecon Beacons. I use .243 Sako 8 twist 75 or 87grn vmax homeloads, I can go to non lead with this when I have to. I also regularly shoot my tikka .204 using 32grn vmax homeloads, 200m zero. Brilliant round and less affected by wind than one might...
  11. .243 to .223, purely for fox 🤔

I would have absolutely no idea, much like anyone else. However I believe there must be some truth in lead effecting the fertility of birds of prey if not actually killing them. I come to believe this because I have customers willing to pay silly money for Rabbits and Squirrels that are shot...
  12. .243 to .223, purely for fox 🤔

I've seen Magpies, Ravens, and Buzzards feeding on foxes. So many that when the ground it wet the surrounding mud worked up by their traffic, is easier to spot than the fox.
