  1. Most popular rifle make on this site

    (other) Savage Model 99 in 300 Savage from 1951, Savage Model 110 in 270 Win from 1984 Mauser's from Spain in 7mm Mauser (dated 1931,& 1932) Mauser's from Yugoslavia in 8mm Mauser (dated 1947 & 1949) Mauser from Germany in 8mm Mauser ( dated 1941 )
  2. Which is the best all round Caliber

    6.5x55, 7x57, 7.65x53, 8x57, 9.3x62, it's all just personal choice they all kill just fine, of course if you don't reload 243 Win, 257 Rob or AI, 260 Rem, 270 Win, 280 Rem or AI, 308, 30-06, 338 Fed... 338 Fed, now there's a round !! Sorry , I just couldn't resist !! :D
  3. 6.5-284 or 6.5-06

I'm thinking 06 brass would be more available and cheaper, my neighbor has a .284 Winchester, and brass is pricey. However current philosophy; is that a shorter-fatter powder column is inherently more accurate due to a more efficient burn, if you intend to shoot 1000 yards, you would probably...
  4. Range Trip 4-10-13

nice job 6pt, i'll place a bet on the 06 preferring RL-19, it works great in my 280 Rem. same case size, good luck !
  5. What calibre?

243 is used quite a bit in the states, and has taken some decent sized Elk (like a big Red or Stag) at reasonable range, shot placement and a stout bullet like Partition or A-Frame is a must ! Great cartridge !
  6. 8x57JS or 7x64 ? which is best ?

Looks like HEYM gave you all the info you need, as well as others input. I have been shooting the 8x57js and the 7mm Remington express (280 Rem) for years, I use the the 7mm with 150 grns or less for 200 yards and farther, and 175 grns for less than 200. I use the 8mm for the heavier stuff (bear...
  7. Most underrated calibre

I saw a 243 remove half of the head of a Pronghorn Antelope @ 50 yards ; "devastating"!! 300 Savage = very underated
  8. Using New cases

I always fl size and trim new brass, so I have the same starting point (control) for my reloads. I have noticed some out-of-round necks in new commercial brass. On rare occasions even a split neck or two. So sizing & inspecting is just part of the deal.
  9. Iconic rifles and calibre.

Savage Model 99 in 300 Savage! Now that's iconic!
  10. Is reloading worth the hassle

When I began reloading, it was because factory ammo was seasonal (made in limited runs) .300 Savage, ...or real expensive, $40 bucks/20 rounds--280 Remington. Or very scarce .41 magnum. Now I reload 7 rifle cartridges and 4 handgun cartridges. I also love the accomplishment of tiny little groups...
  11. 7 x 57 users out there.

7-08? it's modern of course ! LOL Sorry couldn't help myself. new rounds are just doing the same thing as older ones, albeit in newer platforms...just sayin !
  12. 6.5x55 vs 7x57 Why?

congrats on the "double Roe" ! looks like you'll have a busy, rewarding, weekend !
  13. 6.5x55 vs 7x57 Why?

I love all them metrics, I have two 7x57's and three 8x57's. I still want a 6.5 Swede, a 7.5 Swiss and a 7.65 Argie. I like the the fact that all these rounds accomplish their success with lower pressures and less recoil and still hit like a ton of bricks.
  14. 7 x 57 users out there.

On your side of the pond, do they still make the 275 Rigby (7x57) ? I have two 7x57 Spanish mausers and love em, but I handload them to lower pressures (44,000cup), like a 30-30, cause my guns are older (1931,1932). They will kill anything I will ever hunt, Antelope, Deer, Black Bear, & Elk.
  15. My new (second hand) Ruger M77 MKII 243

great lookin rig adjman, may I ask , what brand of can is that?
