Exactly what I have done, and Cable tied a pic rail and fitted a cheap red dot... works a treat. Only issue is in a couple of years when the lead ban comes in, but I will play with reloading my existing subs with bismuth, hopefully will work.

Chap who supplied the deer for the practical on my DSC1 (North Devon) turned up with it in something similar on the back of a ranger or similar. Seem to remember some discussions about whether tracked or wheeled was better as tracked can eat up the grass etc.

I don't see how it can be illegal. The magazine is not a firearm in its own right and subject to no licensing restrictions. For all purposes it is a spring loaded ammunition case.
