Bl**dy autocorrect 🙄. Yes lark's foot. Find the middle of a length of rope and let the two halves hang down. Wrap it around an item (bar, tree etc) and pass the two halves through the loop and pull through the slack until tight. You can also form one by folding the loop down over the two...
I used my electric hoist to skin for the first time. The floor fitting is sprung loaded and recessed so no tripping hazard. Length of rope, larch footed onto a large metric socket (in lieu of a ball) and it peeled off easily after hanging for two days. You still have to skin manually down...
Looks like liver white spot in red deer but not sure if that applies to roe too. If it does apply to roe then it would be fine for consumption as it's due to migrating parasites (but not the liver obviously).
I bought a mint V3 last year for £160 and mount it on my moderator. Once set up for a specific rifle it's very quick to take on and off. If you plan on using it for a range of rifles it could be a bit of a pain if you need to keep adjusting things. I'm very impressed with it.
Made a few shooting related things but of my own design.
3D printed coupling to convert a surveyors tripod to a shooting bench.
Front clip on shield to cover/block red dot sight lens when shooting (left eye focuses on target and right eye on red dot)
Picatinny slide on foregrip and butt to...
At least the original post made me get the finger out and sign onto the fit and competent register. That's 500 acres of common grazing I can now access.
Looks like I'll have to sign up for the fit and competent register. Have DSC1 and able to take deer on our own croft but also had permission ftom the tenants of the two adjacent crofts. We've significant deer pressure on our common grazings so registering will be mandatory if I want to take...
Unfortunately that's over 700 miles plus nearly three hours on a ferry 🤣. I'll certainly try and find a supplier in Scotland if my N160 doesn't improve things. I'm going to order some Fox too and try and work up a load with a different projectile.
Cheers
As an aside, for anyone wishing to shoot copper in .243, naturescot carried out research comparing wound channels of copper vs lead. Spoiler alert, Fox did really well. There's some decent graphics of wound channels, and data in report. I'd certainly consider Fox in 6.5 if my current loading...
Unfortunately my location means very limited choice of powders. The 22" barrel doesn't help either. My current copper load is a compressed load of N555. This gave a decent 1000 yard showing at Bisley with the same 22" stalking rifle, albeit with a 143gn target bullet.
ATB
Thanks for that. I've some N160 so will try that for my next batch. I wouldn't choose to take a shot beyond 175 yards and would normally be under 100. I'd just rather have a bit more in reserve. The bullet manufacturer claims fragmentation down to 760fps. I'll just make sure the follow-up...
