Stalking with dogs

I know no one who regularly takes their dog with them hunting. I know no guides who have deer dogs. Maybe some do, but I haven't run across them. Last week my guide told me a story about a hunter who shot a Boon and Crockett 190 score buck through the hams. This was a $8000 buck on a 6000 acre game proof fenced ranch. The hunter failed to shoot again and the deer got up and escaped. Several guides and hunters showed uu and tried to find the deer, until after dark, no dog. The next morning the guide and some others looked for several hours, no dog, no deer. Luckily, with the help of the Mexican Airforce Caracara, Mexican Eagles in Texas. it was found.

I take my rat terrier on as many hunts as I can. She has 'tracked' all the deer I have shot, that have run. Albeit most have been in my sight. I have a distinct height advantage over her.:) She might have found one that I wouldn't have found, but I believe I would have found it.

I believe that the reason might be Tradition, or because many ranches allow no trespass. If ones deer, jumps the fence, it can't be followed. Of course on a deer proofed ranch, that wouldn't be an issue. So we must go back to tradition.

In that case I :tiphat:to your :british:tradition of stalking dogs. capt david:old:
