Meindl dovres

I have had the very same problem with my Meindl Makalu hiking boots, they cost me over £250 over 10 years ago, I only walked Helvellen, Snowdon and Ben Nevis in them, I correctly water proofed them when necessary stored in the correct way, the Vibram soles still look brand new with hardly any wear at all, the new buck uppers are also as new, but I can't believe that the midsoles are crumbling and now they are absolutely useless, calculating the distance they have works out to be about £3 per mile, I find it utterly ridiculous to have had the response from Meindl that I hadn't used them enough to keep the midsole supple enough and that they have a shelf life and also being palmed off with the scientific method of Hydrolysis causing the problem. I've been told that the cost to repair them is nearly £100 which is a con. So why have they discontinued using the poor quality material in the construction of the footwear after finding the product is completely ****, I have other footwear which I've had for well over 15 years and not a single sign of falling apart, why can't they just admit they made a mistake and resole free of charge. Do we not have consumer rights when it comes to issues such as this.

If u've had a boot 10yrs wot do u really expect? Only 25 quid a year.
Not surprised they wouldn't resole them not after 10 years.

My pair started leaking last year, but to be fair had them a fair while prob 4 or 5 years and get worn 80 to 100 days a year,
stil doing ok despite leak althou have to use yeti gaiters with them now, should get another few seasons out of them yet.

Not sure wot next boots will be, if anything fancy a pair of non goretexed lined, sometimes find gore Tex lined warm after a long day on grouse.
Plus using some cheap ex army haix boots for work and bloody brilliant for the money. Just dunno if I can justify the price now.
Lot of locals raving about dodito boots at 1/2 the price

You can still get more time out of them, remove insoles, fill them with water, (you should do this anyway with warm soapy water to wash the GORE-TEX a couple times a year) wait a couple of hours, you will see where they are leaking, seal inside and out with Aquasure/Stormsure, it might give you another 12 months usage.

How are people finding these currently? Longevity, leather cracking, general quality and value? In the market for new boots, but just checking what the current opinions are? I’ll be replacing Lowa hunters which have been excellent but the composite foam soles have started to degrade and crumble after 2.5 years which I’m not over the moon about so wanting something with a solid sole which won’t perish in that way....
After close to eight years my "Extreme" pair are starting to look a bit worn around the rand but otherwise like slippers now.
They've worm very well even though a lot of the time they were immersed in brackish and / or acidic water. I wish my Le Chameau wellies were the same.
I've also a newer pair of the Dovre Pro and they're much lighter but, sadly, they're not as slipperlike as their older sibling...

I managed to get another 1.5 seasons out of a pair of Le Chameau Mouflons by wearing the SealSkin waterproof socks...still wear the boots dry days, must be 12 years old now...but now have Dovres for winter beating and stalking.

Thanks for your unrealistic reply!! When you spend over £250 for a what I thought is a reputable brand of footwear! You really don't expect them to disintegrate because of lack of use as Meindl have made an excuse for using a material that hasn't been realistically tested.. you'd never hear such bollox from a manufacturer such as Brasher or karrimore who would at least take a realistic approach to the problem. But no a massive company in the market of hill climbing, mountain climbing or just general all weather footwear just basically tell you to f**k off for investing in their products at the wrong time.

You obviously often bend over and do a realistic impression of ace venture by parting your arse cheeks and talking utter bollox

So if you had a Vango tent or a Barbour jacket that you haven't used for some time and when it comes to using it the stitching just disintegrated when you come to using it would you just come to terms with that you haven't used it for a while because the manufacturer say well that's the way it is????
