I have had the very same problem with my Meindl Makalu hiking boots, they cost me over £250 over 10 years ago, I only walked Helvellen, Snowdon and Ben Nevis in them, I correctly water proofed them when necessary stored in the correct way, the Vibram soles still look brand new with hardly any wear at all, the new buck uppers are also as new, but I can't believe that the midsoles are crumbling and now they are absolutely useless, calculating the distance they have works out to be about £3 per mile, I find it utterly ridiculous to have had the response from Meindl that I hadn't used them enough to keep the midsole supple enough and that they have a shelf life and also being palmed off with the scientific method of Hydrolysis causing the problem. I've been told that the cost to repair them is nearly £100 which is a con. So why have they discontinued using the poor quality material in the construction of the footwear after finding the product is completely ****, I have other footwear which I've had for well over 15 years and not a single sign of falling apart, why can't they just admit they made a mistake and resole free of charge. Do we not have consumer rights when it comes to issues such as this.
If u've had a boot 10yrs wot do u really expect? Only 25 quid a year.
Not surprised they wouldn't resole them not after 10 years.
My pair started leaking last year, but to be fair had them a fair while prob 4 or 5 years and get worn 80 to 100 days a year,
stil doing ok despite leak althou have to use yeti gaiters with them now, should get another few seasons out of them yet.
Not sure wot next boots will be, if anything fancy a pair of non goretexed lined, sometimes find gore Tex lined warm after a long day on grouse.
Plus using some cheap ex army haix boots for work and bloody brilliant for the money. Just dunno if I can justify the price now.
Lot of locals raving about dodito boots at 1/2 the price
