Dummy launcher.

Morning all, I know this may be the wrong place to discuss the above but has anybody experienced problems with the construction of the Turner Richards dummy launcher. Thanks.

I have one of their Can Launchers from years ago.
The problem is that since everything has gone metric the rims of cans no longer fit anymore :(
So apart from the bang part of it, it is no longer a lot of use.

I have a dummy launcher it’s about 25 years old, no serious issues with it. It does get very dirt and need a scrub now and again, the extraction is poor and prone to needing a bit of help, it kicks like a mule and the sealing ring blows out so often I don’t replace it any more.
should have a Land Rover sticker on it

Yes. The can rims don't fit unless you discover a stash of 1970's "Double Diamond" you're pretty much done for. You could pretty much get two firings from a DD can though although on that second firing if it had been riddled with not that many holes it'd fire off but it'd sort of compress a bit.

DUNWATER fire it with you arm held to the side of your body (about one foot away) side on so your arm swings in an arc rather than holding the thing pointing forwards in front of you.

Yep. Bloody hurts otherwise! Have it pointing away from the heel of your hand rather than from the thumb side. The recoil should then just cause your elbow to flex.

I had ejection issues with mine too, and I found performance dropped right off if the grease dried on the main stem. The locking bar was a piece of crap too, and I've never trusted the hinge either. Having said that, it's not fallen apart yet

Thanks mate ill definitely give it a go ,but it's bloody difficult to to hold it one foot away on the right hand side and pull and release the striker with your left hand without getting an elbow in the nuts.
It's probably the crudest bit of kit I own, any 14 year old could do better, but it always goes bang, and that's just about the only good thing to say about it.
A friend reamed one out to take Hilti gun cartridges, I think some of his dummies are still being monitored by NASA.

You can get various power levels for the blanks try a few different ones to get one that suits. On the extraction side a little lithium grease on the blank helps a lot and on the shaft its helps make the seal to hold the gas and punt the dummy further.

Had a couple and both good. Only occasional issue is the extractor claw sometimes doesn’t pull the fired case out easily and needs a screwdriver to help

Same, issues with extractor and lost a few 'o' rings from the end. Funny thing is, I bought my first one in the 80's as a teenager. Hadn't used one for about 20 years, now as a 50 something-year-old, I find the bloody things kick like hell! Never noticed it at all in my youth?

Reading these posts has brought back memories. I still have mine up in the shed and recently found some blanks I'd stored away.
Does anyone want to buy it?
You can tell by my timing that I'm not a comedian - or car salesman.

Found what was left of mine. The circlip holding the plunger kept falling out . No firing needle/ plunger spring or rubber handle left . Spoke to Turner Richards yrs ago it would have been cheaper to buy a 2nd hand one . Just kept for the memories
Also two tube dummies and a ball .

If it’s you in the video then you’re holding the launcher wrong. The dummy should be at your little finger side of your fist as it’s held. Your elbow is then bent at about ninety degrees. This is what absorbs the recoil when fired. There’s a marked difference between the two ways of holding the launcher in felt recoil.

2nd the above hold it pinky closet to launcher.

Seen shoulder attachments made out of plastic waste pipe and pipe lagging.

Depends wot u want it for but a tennis racket and ball or them ball thrower things will do almost the exact same thing

I have one that is probably 30 yrs old. I fitted the stock attachment after my willing helper broke his wrist firing it, failure to follow my instructions.

Thank you. I am sure when I was younger I just pointed the bloody thing in the direction I wanted the dummy to travel and let it rip - never remember any recoil issues at all........maybe I should have read the instructions :)

Every now and then I forget and just grab it from the dummy bag and fire. Without making sure it’s the right way round makes a big difference in felt recoil.
