Out of Africa...

Well now.

Our little "Gang of Four" have had deposits laid out since 2019 for a return trip to Mozambique. Then the world came off its bearings.

It is (I have just checked) now 2022. Couple of things have happened.

Pandemic (you know the details).

Armed insurrection (bordering on civil war) in the north of the county (our rough destination).

An email from the PH this morning. Things are starting to move again, how does November this year sound?

Well what say you dear reader?

Would you go?:-|

Hell yes, with maybe a bit more prayer than usual. Getting there and back will be the problem, the trip itself is a dream come true so don't stint yourself, spend it and worry about the cost later.

Was looking at cost of flights today as it happens

Up north might be slightly higher risk, but once out of the towns and off the main roads the risk should drop I would think

These last 2 years have highlighted just how life can change

I’d go - in fact hoping to go this Aug

If I keeled over today - no complaints.

That I ever even got out to Africa on Safari, was more that I could have ever dreamed.

This would be my third trip (my Hunting mates are much more experienced) and so there is an element of "greedy bastard" about it.

That said, on my deathbed (should I get one), I do not want to look back and regret not going.

Whilst not a religious man, there is something about Africa which reaches deep inside a man.

A colleague from South Africa nailed it once, when he said to me, "Once you drink the water". I know what he meant.

One of our group is coordinating coms. with the PH.

He chased me on our WhatsApp Group this evening for my views, I sent him my response:-

"Happy to go with the flow. Covid, armed insurrection, inflation, advancing old age...fcuk it, I'm in"

His response made me smile:-

"A good argument, well constructed and well delivered, I will get the PH to send us some quotes and we can start from there".

Well now, it could just be about to get interesting...

The real question is whether or not I'd come home again!
When we were there last (2012) we were given a briefing on what to do if attacked by poachers.

They were streaming in from Tanzania and the previous month had fired on a "photography safari' group from our sister camp.

I think things have warmed up since then.

Just such a beautiful place and where we were, if was ethical and sustainable hunting - as it should be.

I cannot be the only old git on here, who feels himself born 100 years too late...

Does the trophy ban include poacher's heads?

Kidding aside, you should go. Do what you can while you can because we never know what tomorrow brings.

In the words of a bumper sticker that I saw "Someday is not one of the days of the week"

100%.

You cant allow little things like muj insurgencies to get in the way of the important things in life.

Go for it, we have flights already booked for this April for a trip to South Africa. Had to cancel last years trip.

Funny enough, the insurgency worries me not a jot.

The thought of having to fight my way back into London, to get a Visa from their Embassy, makes me feely slight nauseous.
