want to pick a mod up for my sako 85 varmint 223 anyone used any of these on one ( this is my first centre fire mod be gentle ) stalon x108 proofed or the ASI utra sl5i proofed these are the best at my local gun shop and both have been recommended but reading the small print about hole size and clipping is putting me off a little is this just the shop / manufacture covering there backside ?

"The closer the diameter of the baffles in a sound moderator is to the calibre being shot, the more effective the moderator is, for example a .25 Cal sound moderator is quieter on a .243 than a .30 Cal sound moderator. On the downside it is possible for bullets to clip moderators if they are not aligned perfectly and can also get turbulence which can open up the group size, this is less likely to occur with more space between the bullet and baffles."

just dont want to throw £300 away on something that will open up groups , will be using it for range and field work so want longevity

any help appreciated

Despise my Stalon on my creedmoor, couple of rounds and the heat haze is unreal. Great as in noise reduction and weight but once a couple shots through it, you won't be shooting any more!

Oh poo pulled the trigger on the stalon shop mentioned heat haze but not as bad as that. About next Saturday to try it

Freyr and Devik. Your Sako 85 deserves it 😈😈😈
I use a .308 stainless varmint which is a tad over 8.5 lbs with scope and wildcat mod. The mod is great but lends to being front heavy. I see Freyr and Devil mods are half the weight.
Do you find your Freyr and Devik reduce recoil and noise quite well considering its weight?

Great moderator but likewise heat haze is a nightmare . I only use it for varminting so not a problem but I’d imagine on a range it’s hideous.

To be honest I have only ever had that on my Carbonlight, I wanted a v light setup, so I can’t compare but yes I am very happy with recoil and noise

All the “ Lightweight mods” suffer from heating up quickly, I have a Stalon on my 270 and in 3-4 shots in quick succession it’s still shootable through the scope, you notice it more when zeroing ( when it’s not going well!) and you are firing more rounds. I also have an F&D on a 300 wm it’s the same. In a regular real world U.K. stalking situation you are unlikely to fire more than 3-4 shots in quick succession

Had a long look at the f+d looks nice but nowhere local enough to touch one . Will be looking for a 308 mod for my howa next purely for range work
Cheers for the help

Stalon X108 on my 223 no issues what so ever, all my calibers wear a Stalon bloody good for the money unlike some others ive had!
Hope this helps.

I recently got a JetZ CQB from Jackson Rifles using their trade in deal getting rid of an old Atec Maxim.

The JetZ CQB is absolutely brilliant.

Was zeroing at a target yesterday and the sound reduction is very very good.
