Afternoon all, got a springer bitch that has been in season in the last 4/5 weeks, as she has been coming out of season I’ve noticed her vulva is still swollen, but more to the left hand side. Swelling is larger than a tennis ball and firm but not hard. Been to the vets and they took samples to send off at great expense, got the results today…still don’t know!! Found some cystic type fluid but that was about it. Any one had similar?

Possibly a vaginal hyperplasia.

Possibly a vaginal hyperplasia.

Should have said it’s not a prolapse type of thing, it’s internal, vaginal exam seemed to be all ok as did rectal. I’ll post a couple of pics but it’s quite hard to take a photo of!

I’ve recently has a similar problem with a lab bitch who I thought had a swelling on her vagina which was causing her quite a bit of scratching, licking aggressively and scooting.

Took her to the vets who diagnosed an infected annul gland to my (and her) relief he carefully expressed her glands and gave some ointment which has cleared the prob completely. (Bill £38)

My little Springer Poppy always had a distended fanny when she was in season....the first season when she was super slim and short haired it appeared huge. Fast forward 9 years and after one season the swelling remained...dog totally unperturbed by it. The first Vet said she thought it was just fatty tissue and not to worry...a few months later another vet saw her an didn't like the look of it. £624 later after looking for a tumour and not finding anything the laboratory could identify, decided it was possibly fatty tissue. Because it was so entangled between fanny and bum he couldn't reduce it in size. The £600 included spaying which I had wanted doing anyway...worth paying for the peace of mind.

The swelling on your dog looks similar in size but a bit higher on Poppy than in your photo, but well over a year with it now.

Good luck.
