Hampshire grant wait

Surely a renewal should take less time than a grant ?
Does anybody know if the procedure has changed to cause such a time scale or is it just slow motion, I can't imagine there being that may FC's a SGC's to cause such a long time scale as they are taking now.
Yes, renewals will be prioritised over grants, appreciate your post was referring to renewal but the OP was referring to grant.

I know, but I just wanted to let him know there was still a long wait regardless of Grant or renewal !!
My renewal was done in 8 weeks, that was 3 years ago this month. Shall have to see what happens in 2 years, I’ll be applying for my boy’s first FAC at the same time as he’ll be turning 14 so that’ll be interesting.

Hi WW
Have you had any news? I’m tempted to call and see how Hants are getting on but am also aware I’m becoming a big of a nag 🫣
Last week my FEO said they've not been doing grants as they've had staffing issues so have been focusing on keeping up with renewals. Can't be much fun for them working short staffed and he's been pretty helpful by email. I'm just trying to improve the strength of my application as best I can during the wait.

That’s frustrating, not a lot that can be done about it as it stands.
I’m off to the shooting show so I’ll ask then, if you do hear anything in the meantime I’d appreciate a nudge if you’d wouldn’t mind.

Ah, this is frustrating to hear...and I was just thinking I might have my grant by July (12 months). Sounds like it's going to be closer to the 18 month mark the way things are going.

My experience of late is that the police prioritise renewals and variations at the expense of new applications so we have a number of our clubs members waiting over a year and have yet to receive their FAC. They now have to perform a lot more checks including checks on 'every available database' So don't expect your FAC anytime soon. Contact them and ask but don't be surprised if you have to wait it out for an extended period.

I spoke with my Hants FEO yesterday.
There has been a change around in the office, one team working on historical and one team working on current. They are hoping it should significantly speed things up.

I can actually believe I'm hearing good news haha. Last I heard they stopped processing new grants. Are you waiting for a grant yourself? If so when did you apply?

Update from me. I have had contact from my FEO who has been allocated my application and wants to get on with it including walking a local permission with me. He wants me to be signed off by someone with an open deer FAC who has supervised me and signs me off as safe. I think he means that's before getting an open FAC but I need to check whether he means I need to be supervised at first- if so I'll need to have a think about what to say in response as that would be a lot beyond the HO guidance to my understanding. I have DSC1 and am signed up for DSC2 (although see below).

Unfortunately I am laid up after foot surgery and will be out of action for a while so, with a wry irony, have had to ask him to wait. He's been very decent about that and also seems keen to get things going. My initial gut feeling is hopeful regarding the outcome, even if the delay is now my fault. I had hoped to be able to get out for the end of the doe season!

I think he means for an open licence to. Would be excessive for a closed license as you do already have DSC1. Sorry to hear about the foot. At least you have a FEO allocated to you so when your ready they can help you continue the application. I'm still a long way off that.

When I do meet with him I'll ask about current wait times for others and get back to you.
