What do You gentlemen think?

Yes, unless you want to look like a game keeper…. Max 2 matching tweed items otherwise be prepared to be offered a tip at the end of the day….

I wouldn’t mix and max jacket and Breeks though, just buy a different waistcoat.. it’s also worth looking at trousers to change into for supper rather than buddy breeks ..

If you want to look like a charity shop shopper, crack on, but be warned, no gamebirds will fly anywhere near you, they will probably die laughing before take off :tiphat:

I resemble that comment! 🤣

What's not to like about charity shops? No point buying new when second hand will do at a fraction of the price, and support a good cause at the same time.
Charity shops have provided the mainstay of my wardrobe for as long as I can remember (since early childhood), and have been the source of all my better quality garments.

Between charity shops and army surplus, there's not much need for anything else.

Well…. going by some of the previous posts I take great pride in admitting that I most definitely fall in to the “gamekeeper” category. But then again I’d choose a days rough/walked up shooting in good company over standing on a peg any day of the week!

Never owned a matching suit but will say that (on the days where I do feel obliged to dress up beyond my true station!) my tweeds are of a similar colour even though the patterns vary.

Appreciate that it’s extremely individual/each to their own but, at the end of the day, if a shoot is going to judge me on my appearance over who I am as a person I’ll probably give it a miss👍

…….. but if I gets me tips at the end of the day I’m all in🤣

I am happy with mix'n'match tweeds, as long as they aren't two different loud tweeds, and they are different enough not to look like a failed attempt at a 'matched pair'.

My smart-day shooting-suit is coat, waistcoat and plus-threes all the same - which I think is correct for a guest. I do have a cap in the same cloth - but with that really does more like an employee's outfit. I wear it with a hat.

Undoubtedly better for the environment and society too.

Quite often, especially amongst "old money" guests, the breeks and jacket don't match.
However, the jacket MUST look like it's inherited from an ancestor 🤣 blatantly obvious that it's been out every shoot day for donkeys years, from grouse to end of season cock only days.
Hats likewise,as long as there's more tears/rips/ holes than hat then that's fine, everyone knows that it's been your shooting hat since you were a teenage boy.
Always made me laugh the attire of some guests. They arrive in very expensive cars, use very expensive guns but my beaters are smarter in appearance 🤣
At the end of the day, hopefully you'll be shooting amongst friends so even a dayglow green mankini would be acceptable, they've invited you because they like you, value your company and you're safe in company.

My comment was tongue in cheek, VSS.
I'm a Vinted sort of chap... that way I do not need to leave the village :tiphat:

Opinions will differ, but I think it's fine.
Personally I find there tends to be something a bit dull about the people who have everything perfectly matching. Mixing things up a bit shows a bit more character.
Well. At least it doesn't look as if you couldn't afford a whole set when you decided you wanted to be out and about in tweeds. Although now I rarely wear the coat but just the plus fours and the cap with a green Barbour as the top layer. The jacket is for inside for the breakfast of the after shoot meal.

Although I have never worn a waistcoat so never bothered with such. I did have at the same time for those early warm and dry September days full length trousers made at the same time. Alas the moth git them.

As to mix and match not for me. I'll leave the mix and match to my late uncle Major Billy Prattinton fom the time post-WW1 when he was an ADRIC (Auxiliary Detachment Royal Irish Constabulary often wrongly referred to as "Black and tans" who were a different lot).

Spot on. Also good when you want a job lot of tea mugs and kitchen stuff. I got a halogen oven new from a charity shop and a Emile Henry tagine. My last purchase was a roll of wallpaper to use as drawer lining paper. Although alas in many years of looking I've never found a set of tweeds in any size. Apparently I need to look out for what is called a "dress agency" which is where such might be found.

One last thought as to having the cap matching the jacket and the the jacket matchng the trousers or plus fours? If you put either down and then cannot remember where (or it gets moved by a third party) it is easier to just ask "Has anyone seen my cap/jacket, please, it is the exact same pattern as these trousers?" For those of us that now seem to have short term memory loss it's a Godsend!

Mixed-matched tweeds and shooting white pheasants are as bad as one another...
In my defence M'Lud it was the last day of the season and the syndicate was told the lease wasn't being renewed as the estate was going to use the main woods for yurts, glamping and woodland weddings. So the Shoot Captain announced "If it flies it does" be that black, white, short tailed cock or hen. As long as it was a safe shot everything was to be taken. An was.

If you're worried about "looking like you couldn't afford it", then you probably can't afford it.
I've noticed, on the whole, that the people who really can afford to do things in style generally don't give a fig about looking the part. They don't need to.
It's the one's who can't afford it, but want everyone to think they can, who dress up and then stick out like a sore thumb.
