New Ford Ranger

The new Ford Ranger (2022–2025 models) in Australia has faced significant recalls and reported issues, particularly with the 3.0L V6 diesel engine. Major concerns include camshaft defects, engine shutdowns, transmission failures, and turbocharger issues, with some reports of catastrophic engine failure. Common issues also include electrical glitches and turbo piping failures.

its that schitt diesel you have been feeding it...

New Ford Ranger models (2022–2025) in South Africa have faced several recalls and reported issues, primarily focusing on 3.0L V6 engine stalling risks due to a faulty camshaft sprocket, with over 1,000 units recalled by mid-2025. Other concerns include suspension faults, electronic glitches, and alleged, disputed, or rejected warranty claims regarding engine failures, sometimes attributed by dealers to contaminated diesel.
Key issues and recalls affecting the "Next-Gen" Ranger in South Africa include:
  • Engine Stalling (V6): A significant recall affects 3.0L V6 Ranger (and Everest) models produced between June 2022 and March 2025, due to a faulty camshaft sprocket that can cause the engine to stall without warning.
  • Suspension Faults (2024 Models): A recall was issued for 2024 Ranger models due to a potential incorrect Front Lower Control Arm (FLCA) on the left side, which may cause loss of control or noise.
  • General Reliability Issues: Reports have highlighted issues with gearboxes, turbos, injectors, and electronics.
  • Quality Concerns: Some owners have reported issues with electrical systems, such as, for instance, inoperable backup cameras.
  • Disputed Warranty Claims: Some owners have experienced engine failures where claims were initially rejected by Ford, citing "contaminated diesel".

note the word 'common' has been used twice.

Common Ford Ranger Raptor problems, particularly with the 3.0L V6 twin-turbo model, include reports of engine issues (rough idling/potential valve spring faults), underfilled rear differential fluid from the factory, and minor electronic glitches like the 'R' mode button failing. Key limitations also include low payload capacity (655kg), small fuel tank, and limited tie-down strength for heavy loads in the tub.
Common Reported Issues & Shortcomings
  • Engine & Powertrain:Some units have experienced rough idling or misfires, with potential valve spring issues leading to engine replacements in extreme cases
    .
    • Drivetrain/Diffs: Several reports indicate the rear differential may be underfilled with oil from the factory, leading to noise or potential damage. There are also reports of rear axle, or specifically the inner rod, breaking.
    • Electronics: Issues with the MyMode 'R' button not working, requiring a battery reset. Infotainment system, particularly Apple CarPlay connectivity, has had issues.
    • Handling & Braking: The vehicle can feel loose on wet surfaces in 2H, requiring 4A for better stability. Some owners reported a lack of automatic activation for the parking brake.
    • Build Quality: Reports of excessive dashboard rattles and a stiff hood/bonnet that requires significant force to close.
    • Components: Small steering tie rods (HOS 2 rack) can be vulnerable during heavy off-roading.
    • Cargo & Usage: Low payload capacity (approx. 655 kg) restricts its use as a heavy-duty work truck. No tonneau/roller shutter is standard, making the tray hard to secure.

Ive a New Ranger and its brilliant no issues whatsoever my previous one was also faultless. purchased just before Rachel Thieves pickup Tax grab.
As mentioned previously it’s the massive tax hike on DCPU that are effecting uk sales

11 years ago when I was a young man who had no responsibilities and was making very good money as an ag contractor I popped into our local Ford dealer in Eastleigh.

They had a brand spanking new 3.2 auto wildtrak (the top spec they did then) sat on the forecourt. Dutifully went in and asked if I could have a look at it with the then girlfriend (now wife and mother of 2 crotch goblins). We both liked it. We both drove it and loved it. Only issue is that it didn't have a canopy on it. Not a problem says the ford man, we can have one here in 2 weeks from truckman.

I bought it there and then. Drove it home 2 days later.

The price?

£29850 including the canopy and the vat.

Before you all start, yes, I know - I was curious & happened to be passing.

Dropped into my nearest, not very local, Ford dealership enroute back from a hospital appointment to have a look at the current Ranger.

An interesting 20 minutes & enough to persuade me that should I go down the route of chopping in my two Discos for a dcpu of some description it won’t be for one of these.

The interior was well set out & for the short time I was in it felt comfortable - ‘entry level’ is the Wildtrack model which comes as standard with heated leather seats & steering wheel 😳

Pick up bed apparently comes with a bed liner as standard & the bed itself wasn't visible. However, with the tailgate down the pressed metal panel visible seems somewhat thin & full of punched holes that had nothing in them but allowed a clear view of the showroom floor so likely exposed to road dirt, salt, mud, etc. & a likely point for corrosion. It looked cheap & not well thought out.

Next was a look under the bonnet - this one had a 4 pot motor sat in it but again the tin work looked thin & not fit for purpose.

What really struck me, as both not well thought out or fit for purpose, was the engine air intake… this was on the top of the slam panel just behind the leading edge of the bonnet, to which was fitted a rubber seal to direct air into the inlet. Oh, yes, & would also work perfectly to direct water into the intake too should any make its way in that direction from fording deep water or splashed up from puddles in the road.

Oh, & the price?

After the salesman had said that it wasn’t possible to order a new build because there were so many unsold in the UK due to the new tax rules for businesses who have stopped buying them & Ford have been giving dealers money to let them shift the current stocks… the price he offered me one of their stock vehicles for was £45.8k - less than £3k below list, plus the VAT of course!

Don’t even ask about service intervals or warranty extensions!
Plus nearly £6k to tax it initially…
