Reloder 22

Wondering if anyone has any leads on some Reloder 22?
It’s the only powder the works for my 600 NE.
Many thanks

Might have seen a tub on the @Edinburgh Rifles stand at a recent BASC event?

Google AI suggests that RS62 (or RS70) might be an alternative? Sure Ed would run a QuickLoad for you as well, if you've not tried them.
Thanks - I’ll keep looking for some 22 as that’s what the 600 seemed to like best and due to the extreme cost of shooting this calibre, I would prefer not to do anymore load development 😂

i think its one of the reach banned powders so no longer available in the uk

No, it's made by Eurenco Bofors in Sweden and as with all European manufactured powders is Reach-compliant.

Not sure if Norma powders are available in the UK. If they are then MRP is a very, very close substitute for RL22.

Yes, they are very close. They're both made by Bofors and appear to be the same thing in different cans by most measures, but MRP users in other parts of the world swear that MRP is superior and can be loaded to higher MVs than Re22. Norma powders were very briefly available in the UK the year that Reach came into effect, but the then importer/distributor RUAG Ammotech UK only brought the one shipment in and made a hash of promoting / selling it, so that was the end of Norma products here. (it seems from American forums that Bofors stopped selling Norma brands to the handloading market anyway after the February '22 Russian invasion of Ukraine and the range is unavailable even to those who used to see it.)

RL22 is basically N160 substitute
At £75 a pound RL powders are pointless IMO
We have one tub and you won’t see it again for a long time

Switch to N160 or RS60/62

The best advice you'll find, unless you can source some secondhand product from another handloader.

According to here, not REACH compliant?

REACH is relevant but not the main reason for poor supply
Many of the compliant powder simply are not coming into the country

With the range of RS and Viht available, the lower cost and in many cases the direct overlap between RS/Viht and US branded powders (RL17 IS RS60 for example) there is just no reason to be scratching around for old stock or poor supply

BASC have got it wrong if they show it isn't compliant. All Bofors powders whether marketed under the Norma, Alliant or any other name are definitely Reach-compliant. (That also applies to Alliant rifle grades from other manufacturers as some are made by Swiss manufacturer Nitrochemie (the Reload Swiss people) and General Dynamics St. Marks Powder Co. in Florida (Power Pro ball type powders).

Our Alliant distributor Edgar Bros lists Re22 (and the other 'Reloders') in its current product range for the UK/European market

Alliant Reloder 22

Incidentally, @Edinburgh Rifles earlier post mentioning the £75 / lb price made me smile. As with all other Reloder grades, Edgars quote £105 / lb as the RRP - not that anybody tries to sell them at that price! As Ed says, it's pretty academic anyway as Bofors switched to government / military orders after the Ukraine invasion. Unlike Kier Starmer's defenceless Britain, the Scandi countries have been spending really big on rearmament to counter the Russian threat in recent years, reinforced by previously neutral Sweden and Finland joining NATO post '22.

Whilst we’re on the subject… can anyone suggest a non-Viht equivalent for Reloder10x?

I never got to the bottom of N133 leaving so much moisture in my .20Prac’s Pacnor stainless barrel when sat up a high seat that it would acid etch the bullet of the next round in the chamber to the point of depositing verdigris on the bullet! Tried everything from different cleaning solutions/Products to swabbing and flushing the barrel. I resorted to pulling a .17Bore snake though it after a shot to dry it out! Drove me nuts! 😡

A switch to 10x cured all that with the added bonus of less pressure and higher speed.

Cheers

Granted that thread is from 2019. Would say, from having worked in the agrichemical industry, just because a product is not UK/EU compliant for sale within the UK/EU, doesn't stop it being manufactured in the UK/EU for export. Also doesn't stop UK companies testing/working with non-compliant products.

No great stake in this, but find it interesting that on Alliant's own website, it only specifically mention that 2 of their powders are REACH compliant, being TS 11 and TS 15.5 😅

As far as REACH is concerned, a key point of the legislation is "making available to the market". Anything already out there in distributors or RFDs before the legislation took effect is perfectly legal to sell. Also, there is nothing stopping the manufacturers reformulating and releasing a new version under the same brand/grade which may make the BASC 2019 list a little outdated.

I’m considering Ramshot X-Terminator…

It comes up next to 10x on their burn rate chart
