Spring clean 😎

After a potter around after a few squirrels with the shotgun this morning it was time to give the Disco a bit of TLC.

Not exactly concours standard but clean enough to go to the garage for a once over & fix a coolant leak. When it comes back it’ll get cleaned on the inside & a few mods made ready for next winter - might even get around to replacing the cracked front bumper with the spare one I’ve had nearly as long as I’ve had the car & fitting the genuine soft A bar on the front.

Took my little to work & back car for MOT. It's absolutely ditched inside & out. On collection, paid etc fella goes "tester says i gotta ask - what the hell do you do for work mate"? 😆

I got a puncture once the same evening I had shot a deer and then moved it with the vehicle I had at the time.

I put the spare on and the next day took it to get a new tyre. The guy asks the usual stuff like "where is the locking wheel nut?" so i told him it was in the boot under the mat, gave him the key and said "don't worry about all the blood in the back, it's not human" The look on his face was comedy. Needless to say no small change was nicked from the ashtray that visit and my sunglasses also survived. Bonus!

Your Disco looks good Donkey Basher. Down here they have a terrible reputation and they are pretty much a rarity on the roads. As for getting a repair done here...it's a case of good luck with that....as most mechanical work shops won't touch them.

Imported it from Japan six years ago so lovely & rust free underneath.

Had been looking for a V8 over here, needed to scratch the itch & wanted a D2 to replace the 110DCPU which I hated but which had replaced the 90SW I’d had for 20 odd years but was too small for my needs. All the UK offerings were either rust buckets &/or had been modified for off road use & started at about £5k. Japanese imports were selling for about £10k which was out of my budget.

I tried a couple of specialist importers who were buying at auction but had no luck - my max bid was never high enough… I’m sure they were buying for traders who gave them repeat business whilst I was just a one off private sale.

Then one evening I decided to see what I could find online & came across these photos which sold it to me straight away!

Paid $1500 (£1300) for it. With the shipping, import duties, handling charges & registration it was £3900 all in.

We have a couple of local LR specialists who are happy to work on the older cars, but we also have others who won’t touch them as inevitably once they start to do a job it snowballs & owners don’t like paying what it actually costs! I’ve been spannering on my own various LRs since the 1990s so well aware of how easily a simple little job becomes a load of work you’d not expected… I’ve got to the point in life now where I have better things to do than lie under the things taking the skin off my knuckles so happy to pay a specialist to do the things that need doing!

You certainly got a good deal with your Japanese import. Your Discos' under body looks as pristine as the rest of the car. It must be a pleasure to own and drive.

We don't have salted roads and live many hundreds of kms from the nearest beach so rust is not an isue. My 1994 Soft Dash V8 Range Rover is completely rust free. Sadly I have to sell it due to the nearest mechanic who will work on it being some 350 Kms [ 220 miles} from home [about a 4 hour drive]. If it breaks down and is undriveable then it is going to be a huge drama and I may have to sell it as scrap to a more local [110 kms/70 miles] wrecking yard.
