Fitting pic rail to old T3

Wonder if anyone can help.
I have an older Tikka T3 action that won’t except the 6/48 screws that come with Teir one piccatinny rail.
Has anybody else fitted a rail to an older action?
I think the screw are 3.5x.5 so I managed to pick some up on eBay but heads are so small. They’re just rattle around inside the rail pre-drilled rail holes.
Obviously, one option is to tap out the action, but I’m a little cautious of that.

Tier One are really unhelpful in this regard. The screws they supplied with the rail for my Borden Alpine were wrong and they claimed the fault was with the rifle. It wasn't.

Hi @trucraft , I have some decent M3.5 x 8mm long screws with a large diameter head that might fit. What diameter is the recess on your rail?

Do the m3.5 screws fit the receiver threads well?

My lathe is out of action for about a month but can help with a custom fix after that if required.
That’s super helpful, thank you.
I haven’t put them in the receiver yet.
But the ones in your link look way better matched.
I’m imagining they’re very fiddly to shorten without a lathe.
I’ll put a set of calipers on the existing tier one screws and check.

@trucraft no problem at all. You might need the 6mm long screws at the front and the 8mm long at the back, as seems to be the case with my Tikka 590 to avoid front screws fouling the bolt lugs. Very easy to shorted in the lathe if required. Accu can also provide chemically blackened stainless screws if you need.

The heads on these screws are Ø5.8mm x 3.35mm high.

You can easily check if the action is tapped M3.5 by removing a screw from a 13 amp socket & trying it as they’re M3.5 - just don’t use them to fix the rail to the action as they’re made of chocolate & will break!

Teir one screws are 6.4mm wide heads and 8mm of thread.
There is a hole in the rail and action for a recoil pin which I will definitely use.
I think the screws you’re recommended will work.
Thank you @tackb

Can I ask the question, why a rail?

You would save lot of time and hassle using Optiloc’s
