100% Burn

So I have GRT and I’m looking at bullet and powder selection.

I don’t like buying things that won’t work, it’s already a gamble for accuracy.

Looking at load data from companies, many of them do not have 100% burn. Now this is the first time I have ever bothered doing this, I’m guessing I’m over thinking.

Before I get the replies, yes it’s for deer, yes I understand that 1” at a 100 will do. I would just like it to be as accurate as possible.

It’s 7mm08 and bullets are 120gr TTSX, 130gr Fox and lead 139gr.

In my personal opinion, I wouldn’t bother chasing 100% burn, use whatever powder that you can get reliably and whatever projectile and primer you can get reliably, personally I’ve never worried about it. 96-97% is plenty good enough for me.

And in my personal opinion about the 7 mm and copper, go up to 150gn ttsx and 145gn fox

You go light and fast all you’re gonna do is blow things up!

Thanks. It seemed strange that so many people talk about 100% being important on the interweb, but manufacturers don’t seem worried about it.

Following your advice I did look at heavier. How do they stabilise in a 1:10. I did plug them in to a calculator and results were pretty average.

You’re thinking too much and making this hard work, I’ve never worried about copper bullets and twist rate yet!

And ignore most of what you read on the Internet because most of its borlicks, when it comes to copper speak to those who know that’s what I did many many many moons ago!

I shoot 7x57 with a 19” barrel that’s about 5” shorter than most did give me a few complications to begin where they may be scratch my balls for a little while they’ve got it sussed in the end

Top Propellants for 100% Burn (120gr TTSX)

Hodgdon Varget: Highly recommended for 120gr-140gr bullets in 7mm-08. A load of 43-45 grains is often used to achieve high velocity (approaching 3000+ fps) and complete burn.
Alliant Reloder 17 (RL-17): Frequently cited for achieving 100%+ case fill (compressed) and high velocity (up to 3200 fps) with 120gr bullets.
Winchester 760 (or H414): A ball powder that fills the case well (107% fill often reported) and provides excellent velocity (3050-3150 fps).
CFE 223: Good option for high velocity (3100+ fps), though some users have reported mixed results on accuracy compared to Varget.
Alliant Reloder 15: Reported to show high velocity and good accuracy in 7mm-08 with 120gr TTSX, with 43-45 grains being a typical sweet spot.

Best I could get was Ramshot Big Game, 60.2 grains 77.2% fill, 99.98 % burn. 3000 ish fps pressure up near limits but not in the coloured zones.

Most of those powders you can't get. Rl15 and 17 although are reach compliant they have just disappeared.
Rl15 and varget are very similar to viht n140 which is an excellent powder.
Rl 17 is similar to viht n160.
You don't want to do load development and realise you can't get that powder any more.

Most powders I've looked at on P-max gives me 97% to 99% burnt powder in my 22 inch barrel.

RL17 is the same powder as RS60.

I'll be trying RS60 in my 7mm-08 with some 140gr projectiles in my next load development, along with my usual Vihtavuori N140.
RS60 should give more velocity, slightly more barrel wear (not that worried about that), but it will depend on which groups the best as to which I proceed with.

You could also look at Vihtavuori N150.

The internet is a red herring often.
Cfe223 get slated but last night I shot the end of a house brick from quad sticks from 39gn of cfe223 from the ancient 3030 and a 110 Barnes in a lousy leveraction at a piddly 240 yds

I don’t write any of them. I just have a quick look for a rough guideline and work it out myself, if you’ve done any amount of reloading you soon know how to look for the pressure signs that’s the danger.
