Vehicle Underbody (Clear Coat) Protection

I'm going to apply it myself as the ONLY way of knowing the job will be done meaningfully, and while saving myself c£350!

K
I did the same as you myself, primarily as I'm reliably informed that I have the potential to be an anally retentive arse.

I recommend some disposable overalls, eye protection and WD40 to get the stuff off your face! It seems to be doing a good job though.

I haven't watched the video but I predict that the clear Dinitrol fared well?

Whichever you chose to go with, make sure that you have properly cleaned & dried the chassis etc before applying. I had a D2 done some years back now by a chap who still advertises nationally and who gives a 10 year guarantee for his ‘improved’ product. He pressure washed the chassis but it was neither clean or dry before he applied the black gloop to it & within a few years I had a very rusty chassis as it’d trapped moisture, dirt & road salt under the coating…
B&A? con merchant, he was giving samples one year, they were so soft you could rub the "super hard" coating off with a finger,

Last year I decided to get my car underbody treated. Bilt Hamber was my choice, and an email to confirm my product choice resulted in my receiving this email from them.

Hi Stephen,

Excellent choice for areas where corrosion cannot be fully removed mechanically — Hydrate 80 chemically stabilises residual corrosion and forms a protective barrier.

For best results, ensure all loose and flaking rust is removed with mechanical cleaning before application.

Dynax UC (Topcoat)

Dynax UC is a clear, thin-film wax that provides good corrosion protection, especially on clean or lightly rusted areas.

However, it does not form as mechanically durable a film as Dynax UB

Dynax S50 (Cavities)

S50’s superior creep properties mean it will penetrate seams, spot welds, and boxed sections effectively, protecting even difficult-to-reach areas.

For the underbody:

If the garage has fully removed rust and cleaned to a sound substrate, consider applying Epoxy Mastic over Hydrate 80 for superior mechanical protection — then top with Dynax UB or UC if desired.

If you’re using Hydrate 80 as your main rust stabiliser and topcoating with a wax, be aware that Dynax UC is less durable mechanically — so it may require more frequent reapplication than Dynax UB.

For seams and welds, Hydrate 80 is appropriate, but again, Epoxy Mastic or a similar protective coating over the Hydrate 80 layer would provide longer-lasting protection if the budget and time allow.

For cavities, Dynax S50 is absolutely the best option.

Kind regards,

Steve.

Double sided zinc coating on the base sheet metal would be a nice start if it was available like Golf II & the first Ford Focus (welding is more difficult) but Ford took the double sided off after one year and replaced with only one sided after winning the car of the year award, I know because it was my job to organise it at the Saarlouis plant.
