Pimp my ride.

I have just changed the towbar on the Suzuki Jimny. The towbar that came fitted to the Jimny when I bought it had a tow ball on a long swan necked hitch that was probably only rated 70-75kg. The new towbar is 90kg rated with the 2" removable tow hitch that can also take a 2" rescue hitch. The new hitch will be better for mounting a Heck- pak on and also easier for the dog to jump in the back of the jimny.
It's the last bit of pimping I'm doing to the jimny for now. Internally, I have some of the plastic Temu bits, a Garmin satnav, and in the back some of the fine Molle window covers and roof shelves from Bison Gear in Poland. The internal shelving will also fit my rifles.
Externally, I had fitted a 50mm lift kit, with new steering damper ,215/75/15 Yokohama geolanders on wider rims and proper towing points. I had the full Dinitrol treatment, plus when fitting the new towbar, I gave that two coats of Dinitrol before fitting.
Everything for a days hunting is in the Jimny ready to go apart from firearms related gear that I have ready to go in a horse riders plastic tackle box's so I don't forget anything.

nice looking Jimny.

I’ve got a full set of Bilstein B6s and +20mm H&R spring kit coming this week. I’ve also got a full AVO turbo kit waiting to be fitted but I’ve not got round to that and would need to take the car off the road for 10-14 days while I wait for the ECU to go to, and then come back from, Australia for the mapping to be done!

What type of dog box do you have? We’re in the market for a new one as ours is just a crappy fabric one at the moment!

It's amazing the amount of after market bits there are for the Jimny. As I'm never going to be doing serious off roading in mine mainly gravel forest roads and tracks and the occasional field I think I've got it about right.
The dog box is made by a mate of mine. www.hundgubbe.se. most of the boxes he makes are custom fitted boxes. My one is just a basic one ,nice and light and easy to clean.

I'm looking at suitable towbars as I write, along with other kit but first is replacement of the pathetic and poorly positioned aftermarket rear fog lamp!

The towbar I bought is a Westfalia one. I ordered from Germany.. it looks like a sturdy bit of kit and was easy to fit.

I looked into this and concluded its an awful lot of work and cost to do it correctly and for little gain and a lot more noise. I've been very impressed by how quiet the standard engine is.

Aren’t the light units the same as in the cars that were imported pre emissions control &/or the commercial variants still imported? In which case you’ll probably be able to replace the current offside unit with a UK spec one with a fog light? How is the current fog light switched? - does it use a factory switch already in the dash?

Nice, do you need/use snow chains for the winter ?

The Yokohama's Geolanders are rated as a snow tyre but I Don't think they pass as a winter tyre here. November-march are winter tyres months and having winter tyres, studded or friction type on the truck makes you realise how rubbish summer tyres are in the snow. The Dacia Duster with friction winter tyres on will easily handle a half mtr fresh snow. It's when it's really icey or slushy thats a good test of a winter tyre.

I’ve the full kit from AVO, it’s fairly straightforward to fit really, there is no massive modification required to the engine bay. From memory there are just a few riv nuts to fix into already existing holes to mount the intercooler.

The KB15 is a bit of a 3rd world engine, but is incredibly strong. With the full kit, it’s capable of 180bhp and a substantial increase in torque.

The biggest issue is that the ECU is locked, with no way to unlock it using software. It can’t be OBD mapped and has to be bench flashed, sadly AVO won’t supply the map unless you’re capable of doing this yourself and require the ECU to be sent across to them.

I absolutely LOVE our Jimny but it’s just a bit meh when it comes to performance, drivability and economy. Why Suzuki didn’t put their 1.4 turbo engine in is beyond me.

Got room for any dead animals?

That's what the new towbar is for. Suzuki Jimny, Heck-Pack and vildsvin. Made for each other.
Helpful information and confirmation I need to commission a custom basket that is wider and deeper. I also have a plan that will see additional support to the outer corners c/o ratchet straps to the corresponding points on the heavy-duty roof rack.

Word of warning ref the Jimny roof, the “in motion limit” is 30kg.

It’s explained far more eloquently than I could here.

K - if you can’t support the weight of the carrier & contents on a 2” receiver hitch then having some ratchet straps up to the roof won’t make a lot of difference I don’t think.

Somewhere I have a sketch of a custom carrier that I’ll send over to you. Given the lack of load bearing ability on your roof I’d suggest that you consider getting a socket built into the carrier by the hitch spigot so that you can slot in a ‘gibbit’ to use for hoisting fallow in - the one in the pic below is made from some PTO shaft.

I know the roof rack can only take 30-35kg. The Heck-Pack should carry a 80kg boar OK but if a heavier boar or deer was loaded my thoughts were to put a ratchet strap over the spare wheel to th H-p.
The other thing to consider when pimping the jimny is how much extra weight is added by larger tyres, metal bumper, winches, rock sliders, etc, etc. All those extras can soon reduce the payload that can be carried..
Luckily on our shooting ground there is no need to drive on public roads with a loaded Heck-Pack.

I’ve misunderstood your post I think slightly, you’re meaning to run straps from the corners to your basket? That makes more sense.

I was picturing a big red on the roof rack of a Jimny with its tongue hanging out being slapped by the window wipers, jaarpie style 😂

Without the grey boxes I think I could find a suitable plastic tray to carry a couple of ,top and tailed roe or several muntjac
